Deion Sanders, once a household name in the NFL, has become a bonus machine at the college football level while being the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes. Leading the Buffs to a scintillating 7-2 season so far in the 2024 college football season, the former Dallas Cowboys superstar is churning the dollar mill.
The Nation Wants To Know, and So Do Deion Sanders’ Children
It’s raining money right now for the Colorado head coach. Coach Prime is pocketing major bonuses for his success at the Colorado football program.
However, his children aren’t letting him savor the moment without some good-natured fun. After the Buffaloes secured a 41-27 victory over Texas Tech in Week 11, Sanders reportedly (as per BetMGM) earned a $100,000 bonus, bringing his season total to the tune of $400,000 in incentive payouts.
While the rumors of his windfall spread, Sanders’ eldest son, Deion Sanders Jr. (aka “Bucky”), and his siblings took the opportunity to tease their dad in a series of hilarious social media posts. The chaos began when Shedeur Sanders and Shilo Sanders confronted Coach Prime, demanding a cut of his newfound riches.
Ever the entertainer, Deion laughed off their demands. He insisted the bonus claims were exaggerated. But Deion Jr. took it a step further, tagging Colorado athletic director Rick George on X (formerly known as Twitter) and writing, “Is this true? @RickGeorgeCU.”
He later added another tweet asking, “Me, Shilo, Shedeur, Shelomi, Deiondra, & Travis NEED to know.”

The banter highlights the family dynamic that has made the Sanders clan so relatable and entertaining to fans. Despite their antics, the numbers don’t lie. Coach Prime’s success on the field has unlocked lucrative bonuses under his five-year, $29.5 million contract.
From now on, each additional regular-season win will make his pockets $100,000 heavier. With seven victories under his belt, Colorado is now bowl-eligible and hunting for a Big 12 title.
But it’s not just about wins on the field. Coach Prime’s contract also includes potential payouts for academic performance, Coach of the Year honors, and even a national championship. If the Buffaloes continue their winning run, the NFL Pro Football Hall of Famer could see his bonuses skyrocket, with a national title alone worth $750,000.
Colorado now has matchups outside of the AP Poll Top 25 against Utah, Kansas, and Oklahoma State. The Sanders clan seems to enjoy its mix of on-field dominance and off-field humor.
Stephen A. Smith Wants Dallas To Tank, Bring in Sanders Duo
Prominent ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith thinks differently than Cam Newton. Not only does he like the fit between Sanders and the Dallas Cowboys, but he went one step ahead and called out Jerry Jones to tank what’s left of the season so that they can draft Sanders’ son, Shedeur Sanders, first overall in next year’s NFL Draft.
“I’ll take it a step further, and I’m going to make people very uncomfortable here,” Smith said. “I believe that the Dallas Cowboys should tank the rest of the season, get the No. 1 overall pick so you can draft Shedeur Sanders and, by the way, hire Prime Time Deion Sanders as your head coach for the Dallas Cowboys.”
While NFL media contemplates what Deion’s next coaching destination could be like, Coach Prime is engulfed in leading the 7-2 Buffaloes program to the Big 12 Championship game this season. Their next assignment is against Utah in Week 12, and a win here could propel their AP rankings and solidify their spot in the conference table.
Shedeur Sanders’ Draft Outlook
In Kent Platte’s latest mock draft published here on Pro Football Network, Kent Platte, with the help of the PFN Mock Draft Simulator, projects that Sanders will be selected by the Cleveland Browns.
Platte says, “One team that can’t afford to wait to bring in a new signal-caller is the Browns. We’re well past the point of viewing the Deshaun Watson trade and subsequent contract extension as anything but one of the worst transactions in NFL history.
“The simplest way to remove that bad taste from fans’ mouths and give the franchise a chance to start anew is by bringing in a new quarterback to reboot and build around. Sanders is a somewhat divisive player, but he undeniably comes with a strong athletic pedigree and has displayed impressive arm talent during his time at Colorado.
“With a team needing practically everything, the pick will always be a QB, OT, or EDGE. The best option to make Cleveland competitive again is Shedeur Sanders.”
