More Miami Dolphins Fallout From DeShon Elliott’s ‘Soft as F—‘ Comments

    Published on

Hearing that former teammate DeShon Elliott believes they're soft has lit a fire under Miami Dolphins players and perhaps some coaches too.

Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver’s relationship with DeShon Elliott dates back to at least 2021, when they were together in Baltimore. So Weaver’s thoughts on Elliott’s comments this week that some of his 2023 Dolphins teammates were “soft as f—” carry extra weight.

Miami Dolphins’ Anthony Weaver on DeShon Elliott

Appearing on the Punch Line with Marlon Humphrey ahead of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Week 11 game against the Baltimore Ravens, Elliott said the following:

“I haven’t been able to play against Baltimore the way I wanted to, because last year I played against a team that was soft as f—,” Elliott said.

Those inflammatory remarks obviously triggered not just his former teammates and coaches in Miami but even Dolphins coaches who weren’t on last year’s staff.

Weaver was a Ravens assistant defensive coach in 2021, Elliott’s final year in Baltimore.

Here’s what he said during his weekly media availability:

“I know DeShon,” Weaver said. “I obviously respect who he is as a player. I don’t think any man that walks on that field and plays this game is soft.

“I know the guys in that locker room. I know the passion, the physicality, the tenacity they play with. So the fact that he feels that way? God bless him. We have an opportunity to go get rid of that, whatever softness phrase, whatever the heck he wants to say. We have the opportunity every Sunday to change that.”

Credit Weaver for showing restraint. Kader Kohou and Jevon Holland’s comments Wednesday probably more aptly reflect the Dolphins’ true feelings.

    Kohou on Elliott:

“He’s not here for a reason, obviously. I don’t know why he would go on a podcast and say anything crazy like that.

“If that’s how he feels, that’s how he feels. He could have went on the podcast and said what he wanted to say without trying to throw shots at us. I feel like, when he leaves the Steelers and goes to another team, he’ll probably do the same thing. I got no respect for it. I didn’t think DeShon was the toughest guy.”

    Holland on Elliott:

“I heard he made the comments. I saw the clip. Honestly, man, if you want to call somebody out, go ahead and do that and drop names… If you’re not naming names, the rest of it is empty.”
