The Dallas Cowboys started the 2024 NFL season with hopes of finally winning the Lombardi Trophy but instead find themselves at 3-6, with nearly no hope of even making the playoffs.
Starting quarterback Dak Prescott is done for the season due to a hamstring injury, meaning all Dallas can hope for is drafting the best among the college football lot in the 2025 NFL Draft.
One particular Heisman candidate has already expressed his wish to join America’s Team.
Ashton Jeanty Expresses Wish To Be Drafted by Cowboys
Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty has been one of the leading candidates to win the Heisman Trophy. During a recent interview, Jeanty said he wished to be drafted by the Cowboys next year, citing his family, who live in Texas.

Despite that, fans are convinced that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones would manage to “mess up.”
“Jerry gonna mess this up somehow,” one fan commented.
“Jerry Jones finna fumble this 😭” another wrote.
“Jerry would still not draft him,” another added.
Jerry jones can have a blueprint to rebuild this team and he will ignore it.

One fan had a different outlook:
“Jerry gonna f*** around and trade that pick for a 14 year running back with two bad knees and a 6th round pick from 2028.”
Another trolled the running back:
“whoa, this has got to be the first top 10 pick to ever say this 😂”
During a recent interview with “Kickin It With Dee,” Jeanty was asked if he was given the opportunity to script the 2025 NFL Draft, what would he do. In reply, the Boise State running back said:
“My family’s all in Texas. Family being there, all the connections, all the relationships. I feel like that would just be the perfect city to play in,” Jeanty said.
Still, even if both the Cowboys and Jeanty seem like a perfect fit, the realization of the same is a little far-fetched as of now.
Per the current 2025 NFL Draft order, the Cowboys hold the No. 11 pick. Yet, the way Jeanty has been performing this season, there’s a chance he gets selected before then despite playing the running back position. In fact, a recent ESPN mock draft saw Jeanty be picked at No. 9.
This means that if the Cowboys want to select Jeanty, they may need to trade up. Luckily for Dallas, Prescott is already signed to a long-term contract, meaning they’ll likely go out and draft premium skill-position players in 2025.
