Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe has been a sensation this 2024 college football season with his dual-threat abilities. Milroe’s combination of speed, tactical skills, and game sense makes him one of the most exciting quarterback prospects for the 2025 NFL Draft.
The 21-year-old sat down in a podcast interview, revealing a childhood shaped by a strong military upbringing.
Jalen Milroe Gets Commitment and Discipline From Military Environment
Milroe grew up with the discipline and resilience expected from a military family. He appeared on the “Field Talk Podcast” with Field Yates, discussing stories of his football journey — from recruitment by none other than the legendary Nick Saban to his on-field struggles early on this season under a new head coach.
Yates, however, before diving into on-field details, wanted to know how Milroe saw his journey growing up and what role a military family environment had on him.
“I want to ask you about what it was like to grow up in a military family… Anything that you learned specifically from your parents that maybe you’ve been able to apply to your football playing career?”
Milroe wasted no time in crediting his parents’ influence, explaining how their values have driven his approach to football and life. “With my parents, I definitely believe they shaped who I am as a person in a positive way. My dad was a Marine, mom’s in the Navy, both military,” Milroe shared.
“Growing up, it was all about being detail-oriented, goal-driven, and committed to whatever you set your mind to,” he continued.
These principles have played a major role in shaping Milroe’s football career. His military upbringing has helped him handle the pressures of leading the Crimson Tide, a team gunning for a national championship under his leadership.
“It’s all about following the path that you’re placed in front of you, and that’s something that I try to do as much as possible… I can say that my parents have definitely put me in a situation to have the right mindset you know, constantly go to my goals, constantly grow at the position with the proper resources,” Milroe stated. For Milroe, the lessons instilled by his parents — attention to detail, discipline, and a commitment to personal goals — are exactly what he brings to the field.
With the 2025 NFL Draft set for April, Milroe’s stock is already rising. He will be a major asset to any franchise lucky enough to secure him.
