What Is the “Purple Rising” Uniform?

The key tenet of the Purple Rising uniform is a new helmet.

“Our first-ever alternate helmet features a metallic purple rising painted shell with gold talon lines, a gold face mask, and the front-facing Ravens logo, best known for the red eyes that adorn the player entrance tunnel at M&T Bank Stadium. Purple Rising is just the third helmet version to be worn by the Ravens since the franchise’s 1996 inception.”

This will be the first time in franchise history that the Ravens will don helmets that are not black.

“A front-facing Raven logo was part of our original logo system in 1996. When the primary logo was updated, the secondary mark was also revised so the structure of the eyes would match by accentuating the red and white design still used today.”

Suffice it to say the players were fired up about the new looks.

When asked about the helmet, Rashod Bateman said, “I’d definitely say it’s the best thing that we’ve got working right now, for sure. We all like it. It’s a little different.”

CB Arthur Maulet was also a big fan. “They hard, bro. I can’t wait to put them on. I’m a purple guy. I’m from New Orleans. So [it’s] one of my favorite colors. Purple is for royalty and loyalty. That’s king color right there. I can’t wait to put the purple and gold, man. Mardi Gras color is purple, gold, and green, so it’s right at home with me.”

All of the buzz surrounding the new helmets from fans and players alike has been positive. The football world will officially see them in action when the Ravens host the Bengals later tonight on Thursday Night Football.
