Former GM Mike Tannenbaum left NFL fans scratching their heads and cracking jokes after suggesting an absurd trade involving Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett and Detroit Lions sophomore running back Jahmyr Gibbs.
NFL Fans Didn’t Spare Mike Tannenbaum for Trade Idea
Tannenbaum, who has headed the front offices for both the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins, made a trade proposal on ESPN’s “Get Up.” His suggestion surprised fellow NFL analysts on the show — and not in a good way.
His pitch: Send Gibbs, three first-round picks, and a second-round pick to the Browns for Garrett. And what was his reasoning? Tannenbaum believes it would give the Lions the ultimate shot at a Super Bowl.
His words had fellow ESPN analyst Ryan Clark walking off the set in disbelief. Even Dan Graziano chimed in with jokes, saying the Lions would have to throw in Detroit’s famed landmarks, from the Monument to Joe Louis (also known as The Fist) to the Ambassador Bridge, to make it even more extreme.
Tannenbaum, however, defended his stance, saying, “The Lions need a pass rusher in the worst way.”

But fans weren’t having it. Social media platform X (formerly Twitter) exploded with fan reactions roasting Tannenbaum’s proposal. One wrote, “This may be the worst trade proposal of all time, buddy should be fired off ESPN just for this take.”
“No wonder you are no longer a GM Jesus Christ this is the dumbest trade I have ever seen!!” said another.
One X user tweeted: “This is why he’s doing morning shows and no longer in a front office.”
“How Tannenbaum ever had a GM job, let alone two, is beyond me. Goes to show how dumb some of these owners are,” said another.
One fan commented: “There has to be a clause in his contract that he has to do something like this once a month. It’s the only explanation that makes any sense.”
“Theres no way hes talking about team building and then giving away arguably a Top 3 back, 3 1sts and a 2nd…..maybe theres a reason he isnt in a front office anymore lol,” said one other.
Garrett is one of the league’s top defenders, boasting 10+ sacks in his last six seasons. While Tannenbaum sees the move as a potential Super Bowl springboard, most fans and analysts disagree.
“Guys, don’t get me wrong, I think Jahmyr Gibbs is a great player; I’m just saying from a team-building standpoint, to get somebody like Myles Garrett is almost impossible,” Tannenbaum said at the end.
