Jalen Hurts was recently present at the Merion Golf Club outside of Philadelphia. He was joined by Saquon Barkley, Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie, and former President Barack Obama.
As per NBC Sports’ John Clark, Hurts did not play golf with Obama and others due to a clause in his contract, and many fans were surprised to hear that he had such a stipulation in his contract.
Fans Surprised by Golf Clause in Jalen Hurts’ Contract
The Eagles quarterback signed a five-year, $255 million extension in 2023. The franchise does not want him to deteriorate his health away from the field, which is why they have put the no-golf clause in his contract to protect their investment.
Here’s how fans reacted to it:

“That’s actually hilarious that he has a contract stipulation that says he can’t golf,” said one fan.
“I’d be sick if my agent didn’t get that removed from my contract,” added another fan.

Other quarterbacks, like Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, and Aaron Rodgers, are usually seen playing golf during the offseason. As a result, Hurts’ revelation came as a surprise to many.
Hurts was unable to play golf with the former president, but he did enjoy his time on the course.
“To see him [Obama] out there enjoying himself and talking a little trash, that was cool,” Hurts said as per Delaware News Journal’s Martin Frank. “I told him he didn’t want these problems just yet. I can’t golf right now. By contract, I can’t golf. His day will come.”
The Eagles star is just 26 years old and still has many years left in the league. He can hope to have another opportunity to play with a person like Obama once he’s done playing football — or when the no-golf clause in his contract is removed.
Eagles Are on a 3-Game Winning Streak
After a shaky start to the season, the Eagles have won three straight games coming out of their bye week. They have improved to 5-2 on the season and are in an ideal spot to win the NFC East.
The Eagles are coming off an impressive 37-17 win against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 8, proving many of their critics wrong.
Hurts has also improved his play on the field; he has not turned the ball over once in the last three games heading into Week 9. He threw four interceptions in the season’s first four games and fumbled the ball five times.
The Eagles will hope that Hurts continues to build on his performance against the Bengals and help the team to go on a long winning streak. Philadelphia’s next two games are against the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Dallas Cowboys. Given how things have transpired this year, the Eagles should be able to win both these games.
As of now, the Detroit Lions look like the best team in the NFC, but if the Eagles continue to improve as they have for most of the season, the race to finishing as the first seed in the NFC could get tighter.
