Dallas Cowboys fans may soon be hearing calls for major changes. Super Bowl-winning wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson has openly suggested a bold move: “stealing” Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay.
Appearing on “The NFL on FOX Podcast”, Johnson didn’t mince words about the Cowboys’ struggles this season, leaving them at a disappointing 3-4 record after their 30-24 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on “Sunday Night Football.”
Keyshawn Johnson Sees Sean McVay as Key to Cowboys Revival
The former wideout suggested coaching as a potential solution, saying that a change at the top might be what’s needed to revive the team’s playoff hopes. Johnson painted a grim picture of the Cowboys’ path forward.
“Nothing [the Cowboys can do] … they just got to ride the ship,” he stated. He pointed out that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones’ team is up for a crucial set of matches, with playoff hopes possibly fading if they don’t turn things around.
“Think about the next four games though they got: Atlanta, Philadelphia, Houston, Washington, all before Thanksgiving. They might as well just cancel Christmas,” Johnson said.

The ex-NFL star then floated the idea of attracting McVay to Dallas, calling the Rams’ coach a game-changer.
“I can’t say it would be unprecedented, but man it would be wild to see, especially with where things are headed for the Cowboys,” podcast host David Helman said in response.
“He’s worked miracles with quarterbacks, you know. So, I don’t know, I’m just throwing it up there to see if it sticks,” Johnson said.

There’s no doubt that the Cowboys still hold a certain level of clout in the NFL, and if anyone were to bring their glory days back, that name would be etched in history. However, before McVay got into the picture, Johnson had one more name on his mind — Sean McDermott.
“You go get Sean McDermott, right? You go steal him from Buffalo. Like, that’s the type of coach I’m talking about,” Johnson said. “Like, do you get a guy who is there but not quite there? … I think you try to steal that right.”
“He’s built one of the most consistent programs in the NFL right now,” Helman said in reply.
Mike McCarthy’s future in Dallas remains scrutinized, and Jones is also running thin on patience. Johnson hinted that a deep postseason run might be McCarthy’s only saving grace. Short of that, the Cowboys could be in the market for a high-profile coaching hire, and McVay’s name might just rise to the top of that list.
