Rhamondre Stevenson Wednesday Injury Update: Is Patriots RB Playing in Week 8?

What's the latest Rhamondre Stevenson injury update? Here's everything we know about the New England Patriots running back for Week 8.

Rhamondre Stevenson struggled to get the New England Patriots‘ ground game going last week against the Jacksonville Jaguars. This week hasn’t gotten off to a good start for the Patriots running back, either.

What’s the latest on Stevenson, and will he be available this week against the New York Jets?

    What Happened to Rhamondre Stevenson?

Stevenson injured his foot late in New England’s Week 5 loss to the Miami Dolphins. The star running back returned after a brief exit and downplayed the injury afterward, but he missed every practice the following week before being ruled out final injury report for the Week 6 matchup against the Texans.

Listed with a foot injury, Stevenson then missed the first two practices last week. But he was able to play in London against the Jacksonville Jaguars this past Sunday. Either because of the foot, underperformance from the Patriots’ running game as a whole, or both, Stevenson was unable to get anything going and finished the game with only 18 rushing yards.

Adding a layer of complexity to Stevenson’s status this week is his absence from Wednesday’s practice plus an additional designation of “NIR-Personal” (not injury related), according to MassLive’s Mark Daniels, who covers the Patriots.

Veteran Antonio Gibson would be in line for another start if Stevenson is forced to sit against the Jets. JaMycal Hasty sits at the bottom of New England’s running back depth chart.

Fantasy Impact of Stevenson’s Foot Injury

Fantasy managers are likely growing pessimistic with Stevenson, even when healthy. He has not topped 100 rushing yards since Week 1 and also has just two rushing touchdowns since the impressive season-opening performance against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Gibson would be a solid fantasy option if Stevenson sits. The Jets have a reputation for being a salty defense with talented players, but they rank just 16th in rushing yards per game allowed at 127.7 and have surrendered seven rushing touchdowns on the season. The shifty back arguably has outplayed Stevenson this season — according to some metrics, anyway — and is the more natural pass catcher.

And with New England trying to avoid putting too much on Drake Maye’s shoulders, they could emphasize the run for as long as the game allows against the Jets.
