‘Career Over’: Giants Fans Condemn Daniel Jones After Being Benched for Drew Lock in Horror Show vs. Eagles

    Published on

Daniel Jones was criticized by the New York Giants' fans after the quarterback got benched in Week 7's 28-3 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Daniel Jones and the New York Giants lost 28-3 to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 7. This was a devastating loss for the Giants, and they are now 2-5 on the season.

With Andrew Thomas out with an injury, Jones was sacked seven times. He was eventually benched in the fourth quarter, and Drew Lock was given an opportunity to make his case for becoming the team’s starting quarterback.

Daniel Jones Criticized for Poor Performance

The Giants fans on social media criticized Jones for his poor performance against the Eagles. The 27-year-old quarterback threw for just 99 yards, averaging 4.7 yards per throw.

“Daniel Jones makes me angry to watch the Giants,” said one fan.

“Jones is cooked,” added another fan.

“Gotta think this game just got everyone fired, another wasted season,” added another fan.

“He needs to watch from home; he sucks,” said a fan after Jones got benched.

Jones signed a four-year, $160 million contract extension with the Giants in 2023 and is under contract until 2027. He suffered an ACL injury last season and, so far this season, has not proven that the Giants should continue with him as their starting quarterback.

In seven games this year, Jones has thrown for 1,442 yards, six touchdowns, and four interceptions, completing 62.5% of his throws with a passer rating of 80.6. The Giants’ offense is averaging just 16.0 points and 329.7 yards of total offense per game this season.

Malik Nabers has been exceptional, but the team needs more playmakers on offense. The front office failed to replace Saquon Barkley, who rushed for 176 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries in his first game back against the Giants.

    The Giants’ next three games:

Jones was likely benched in the fourth quarter against the Eagles because the game was essentially over. The eagles also subbed out Jalen Hurts late. He is expected to start next week, but the Giants could already be looking for a new quarterback.

    Potential Jones Replacements for Giants

It would be unreasonable for the Giants to replace Jones with a veteran quarterback, as their team needs to start over to contend. They already have a good left tackle in Thomas and a star receiver in Nabers.

Drafting a quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft makes the most sense for the Giants, as they could possibly have a top-seven pick. New York could have had a chance to draft Jayden Daniels or Drake Maye in the 2024 NFL Draft, but Tommy DeVito’s heroics ruined their chances of getting a top-three pick last season.

Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders is primed to be the first quarterback to get drafted next year, and the Giants could be in touching distance to draft him. Miami’s Cam Ward and Alabama’s Jalen Milroe are other options that the Giants could consider, as they have a physique built to play in the NFL.

Apart from getting a quarterback, the Giants need better skill-position players. Even if they move on from Jones, surrounding a new quarterback with no quality weapons and a poor offensive line is a recipe for disaster.
