Deshaun Watson Achilles Injury: Browns Players Call Out Fans for Cheering On QB’s Exit

Browns players were not happy with fans cheering after Deshaun Watson suffered an Achilles injury in Week 7 against the Bengals.

Needing a win off a four-game losing streak in order to keep their season alive, Deshaun Watson and the Cleveland Browns squared off against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 7.

Watson, who has struggled throughout the season, was under immense pressure. He started the game well, completing 15 of 17 passes for 128 yards. Unfortunately, he suffered a severe injury and was carted off the field.

    Deshaun Watson Injury Update

Watson has reportedly suffered a likely season-ending Achilles injury. The Browns quarterback was in tears while getting carted off, and his teammates tried to console him.

Fans in the stadium cheered after Watson got hurt, and Browns players were not happy about it.

“Some Browns players were yelling at fans cheering the Watson injury. Ugly scene,” wrote Ben Axelrod via X.

No matter who the player is, you never want to see them get hurt. Watson’s teammates knew how bad the injury was and came to support their quarterback.

Cleveland fans were unhappy with Watson’s performance on the field and constantly called for him to be benched. With this injury, it’s unlikely the 29-year-old QB will play again this season. Next week, Jameis Winston will likely get the opportunity to start.

Winston was inactive for the Week 7 game against the Bengals, and second-year quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson had to step in after Watson’s injury.

    Watson’s Stats With Browns

After being traded to the Browns in 2022 from the Houston Texans, Watson signed a fully guaranteed five-year, $230 million contract. He is under contract until 2027 and, despite his injury, will be paid $46 million in each of the next two seasons.

Before today’s game against the Bengals, Watson played 18 games for the Browns across three seasons. In those games, he threw for 3,237 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, completing 60.4% of his passes with a passer rating of 79.8.

In six games this year, he had thrown for 1,020 yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions with a passer rating of 76.6 and a league-worst QBR of 22.0.

“It’s quite possible we’ve seen Watson’s last NFL snap,” said NFL Network’s Gregg Rosenthal after the quarterback’s injury.

Cleveland is expected to draft a new quarterback next year, and due to Watson’s off-field issues and poor play on the field, the franchise might move on from him. Whether or not another NFL team takes a chance on him remains to be seen, but as of now, things don’t look right for the Clemson product.

Hopefully, he will recover from the Achilles injury and give the Browns a reason to continue with him next year.
