The Buffalo Bills traded Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans in April. The star wide receiver played four seasons for the Bills and had immense success.
He played a massive role in Josh Allen’s development but was still criticized by many for his actions on the sidelines during some games. Last year, many people foresaw Diggs’ exit from the Bills, and he was eventually traded after the team lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Divisional Round.
Diggs’ teammate, Joe Mixon, who was also traded to the Texans in the offseason, recently defended the receiver.
Joe Mixon Chimes In on Stefon Diggs’ Reputation
Mixon spoke about Diggs on the “Green Light with Chris Long” and praised him. The 28-year-old running back also mentioned that Diggs is “misunderstood” by people, as he is a great teammate.
“I think that what Diggs brings to our offense is definitely something special. I think that’s probably what the younger receivers have been looking for or, you know, looking to be like one day,” Mixon said.
“In terms of the outside narrative for Diggs, it’s like I think personally he [is] just misunderstood because the guy that I see each and every day as a competitor of him trying to be the best football player out there — I think he [is] just misunderstood, man.”
“The guy comes to work with a great attitude, is ready to go, gets the guys going, and brings the juice each and every day. … And I feel like I think it was a hell of a tandem by [Texans GM] Nick [Caserio] bringing us in.”
Since arriving in Houston, Diggs has avoided any controversy. He has been the perfect veteran for young players like C.J. Stroud and Tank Dell. Hopefully, he will continue to be like that and play a big role going forward.
Diggs and Mixon restructured their contracts after being traded to the Texans. The wide receiver will be an unrestricted free agent after this season, and it will be interesting to see what decision he makes in free agency. As for Mixon, he signed a three-year, $25.5 million restructured contract with the Texans and is under contract until 2027.
Diggs and Mixon Ready To Face a Tough Challenge in Week 7
The Texans are 5-1 heading into Week 7, where they will face the Green Bay Packers. This will be a very tough game for Houston as they have already lost to one NFC North team this season, the Minnesota Vikings.
The game between the Packers and the Texans will feature two of the best young quarterbacks in the league, and both are surrounded by elite talent at the skill positions.
The Texans are still without Nico Collins, who is out due to a hamstring injury. Both Diggs and Mixon have had a good start to the season, and the team will rely on them to have a big game against the 4-2 Packers.
Diggs stepped up in Collins’ absence in Week 7. During the 41-21 win against the New England Patriots, the four-time Pro Bowler had six receptions for 77 yards and a touchdown on seven targets.
Mixon was limited in practice due to an ankle sprain but is trending toward playing on Sunday. In three games this season, he has rushed for 286 yards and two touchdowns on 52 carries, averaging 5.5 yards per carry. The former Bengals star also has eight receptions for 74 yards and a touchdown.
