While the NFL world is currently divided over the Russell Wilson-Justin Fields debate, former Carolina Panthers star Cam Newton has given his verdict on the matter.
In one of his latest podcasts, Newton boldly sides with Fields and crowns him as the player who deserves to start against the New York Jets this Sunday.
“I don’t agree with that,” Newton said. “Because the thing about it, it just creates division in the locker room. Because as a football player … there’s going to be the whispers, the chirpers. I mean, ‘Why we doing this? I was f*****g with Justin, bro.’ People talk. You got a whole bunch of alpha males in that locker room that’s going to be like, ‘Man, bro, what the f**k?'”
“We trying to win, bro. We 4-2. It puts added noise in the locker room. From the media perspective. We talking about this. … Now we creating a media frenzy, a scandal. Just let him lose the job. I don’t think Justin Fields did enough to lose his job.”
While head coach Mike Tomlin shared that he will keep the starting quarterback answer under wraps for a while longer, Wilson’s enthusiastic comments ahead of the Week 7 showdown hint at Fields’ potential benching this week.

Russell Wilson Shows Excitement for Jets Matchup
Wilson couldn’t contain his excitement during a media appearance this Thursday while talking to the press ahead of his first matchup this season.
Wilson said about the game ahead, “It’s the first game of the year for me. But I’ve been fortunate to be in a lot of first games. So the confidence is there obviously,”
While Fields has been helping the team reach a 4-2 overall record, Tomlin seems to be giving the veteran a chance to show off his skills.
While NFL stars like Cam Newton, Terry Bradshaw, and more do not agree with the potential decision of Fields getting benched, the Steelers quarterback admitted to not giving his best performance:
“I don’t think I played good enough if I’m being real with you. If I’m being real with myself, I think if I did play well enough, I don’t think there would be any sort of, ‘Who should be playing, who should not?'”
Fans can watch the Jets vs. Steelers matchup this Sunday on NBC and Peacock.
