NY Times Best-Selling Author Likens 2-4 Jets To Mets-Like Comeback After Davante Adams Trade

    Published on

The Jets have started the season poorly, but so did the Mets, who are a few wins away from the World Series. One talented author drew similarities.

The New York Mets have woven magic this year in Major League Baseball. They were 22-33 by May 29, with 11 games under .500. Making the postseason was a long shot. But then, the Mets flipped the script.

Since June, the Mets have been the best team in the MLB. They have the best record and most wins (65-40). The Mets are now in the National League Championship Series taking on the Los Angeles Dodgers and just three wins away from playing in the World Series.

Then, there’s another New York franchise that finds itself in a somewhat similar spot as the Mets — the New York Jets. Entering the season with Super Bowl expectations, with the return of a healthy Aaron Rodgers, the Jets have been far from impressive. Currently 2-4 in the mighty AFC, they have only a 48.6% chance of making the playoffs. But all hope is not lost, at least according to sportswriter Ian O’Connor.

NY Times Best-Selling Author Compares Jets’ Season to the Mets

The Jets’ first six weeks of the 2024 NFL season have been disappointing. Things had to change, especially after their Week 6 loss to the division rival Buffalo Bills. That’s why the Jets traded for three-time All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams on Tuesday, reuniting him with his former teammate, Rodgers. Adams’ addition is a major boost for the Jets’ offense.

Five-time New York Times best-selling author Ian O’Connor believes the season is far from done after Adams’ addition. He compared the Jets’ situation to the Mets, who were nowhere near the playoff picture in May but completely turned it around since June. The “Out of the Darkness” author feels Adams’ addition is the missing piece for the Jets to change their story.

    He posted on X:

“The 2-4 Jets have given their fans absolutely no reason to believe they can reach the postseason and make some noise once they get there. Just like the 22-33 Mets, who are now seven wins away from a World Series title. …Sports is crazy. You never know.”

The Jets have not made the playoffs in over a decade. They are among the only two New York teams from all major sports (NBA, NFL, MLB, and NHL) to have not made a visit to the postseason since the 2010-11 season — the other team is the Buffalo Sabres.

The Jets’ last playoff game was against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2010 AFC Championship Game, which they lost 24-19.

Davante Adams Trade, a Move of Desperation by the Jets To Revive Season

Rodgers was supposed to come in and “save” the Jets last year. However, the four-time NFL MVP went down with an Achilles injury in the first game of the 2023 season. And the Jets suffered a similar fate, finishing 7-10.

While they hoped things would be different this time around, it hasn’t been that way. The Jets’ offense has struggled to get going except the Patriots game, where they showed flashes of what this team could truly be.

Time was running out for the Jets to turn around the season after the Monday night loss against the Bills. On Tuesday morning, Davante Adams was a Jet. Adams knew it was “time for a change” after spending more than two years with the Las Vegas Raiders. He has an excellent chemistry with Rodgers, and the Jets are banking on the duo to revive the season, just like the Mets did.

“I expect to be on the same page,” Rodgers said via ESPN. “I’m hoping that we click. He’s been out for a few weeks with a [hamstring] injury and we haven’t played together since 2021, but we have a lot of memories to call upon. He has an incredible recall.”

Adams will make his Jets debut against the Steelers on Sunday, Oct 20.
