Miami Dolphins Running Back De’Von Achane Nears Concussion Protocol Exit

Miami Dolphins running back De'Von Achane seems likely to clear concussion protocol in time to play Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — All signs point towards Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane playing in Week 7.

Given all the available facts, odds are strong that Achane clears the concussion protocol this week — and perhaps as soon as Thursday.

Injury Update for Miami Dolphins RB De’Von Achane

Achane was out of the red non-contact jersey and practiced fully Wednesday, the clearest sign yet that he is on track to soon leave the protocol 10 days after getting concussed.

UPDATED (Oct. 17): Achane also practiced Thursday without the red jersey and without limitation.

“Achane is progressing through the protocol with all things positive,” Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said. “The last protocol piece is based upon activity that he should be doing. Hopefully, he’ll get some clarity on that, but we feel good with where he’s at, for sure.”

If Achane does indeed return, he’ll be looking to get his second NFL season back on track. A year after breaking the NFL yards-per-carry record (100 rushes minimum), Achane is averaging just 3.3 per attempt.

It’ll be fascinating to see how McDaniel will use him given how well the Dolphins’ other two featured backs — Raheem Mostert and Jaylen Wright — performed after Achane left the Patriots game in Week 5.

Miami set season highs in carries (41) and rushing yards (193) against New England.

In other Dolphins injury news, Emmanuel Ogbah, Jordan Poyer, Mohamed Kamara, and David Long Jr.all practiced after missing Monday’s session. Ogbah is “day-to-day,” per McDaniel.

Jevon Holland practiced with a wrap on his injured hand and could play Sunday against the Colts, McDaniel said.

The only two Dolphins players not spotted: Tackle Terron Armstead and defensive lineman Calais Campbell, who often get rest days on Wednesdays.
