Jayden Reed Injury Update: Examining Whether the Packers WR1 Will Play in Week 7 vs. the Texans

    Published on

What's the latest on Jayden Reed's injury, and will he be able to play in Week 7 when the Packers face the Texans?

The Green Bay Packers dominated the Arizona Cardinals, 34-13, on Sunday afternoon. However, they had a scare when wide receiver Jayden Reed briefly exited the game, and wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks was ruled out as well. What happened to Reed, what’s the latest on his status, and what does this mean from a fantasy perspective?

What Happened to Packers WR Jayden Reed?

While Wicks’ shoulder sprain certainly seems worse, Reed also briefly exited Sunday’s contest against the Cardinals due to an ankle injury. Fortunately, he was able to return to the game.

It seemed that Reed got injured while fumbling a punt return with roughly five minutes remaining in the second quarter. The Cardinals recovered Reed’s fumble, but the turnover was called back because of multiple offsetting penalties.

Reed was back in the game when Green Bay’s offense got the ball back with two minutes remaining in the second quarter.

Reed caught six passes for 28 yards and the Packers’ first touchdown of the day in Green Bay’s convincing win over Arizona.

While Reed was limited in practice on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday this week, he’s good to go against the Houston Texans in Week 7. In fact, Reed doesn’t even have an injury designation for Sunday’s game, which is a great sign.

Reed entered Week 6 leading Green Bay in receptions (21) and receiving yards (414) while scoring two touchdowns.

    Reed’s Fantasy Outlook

Reed scored and was the only Packers player with a catch through their first two drives last week, a game during which he was dinged up.

While Reed is playing against Houston, the hope is that this ankle injury won’t limit Green Bay’s top receiver in any way.

Considering Reed doesn’t have an injury designation, I’m operating as if Reed will be a full-go in this spot against a Texans defense that has already allowed four 20-point performances to a wide receiver this season.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Reed is the Packers’ version of Deebo Samuel. With a touchdown catch or multiple rush attempts in every game this season, Reed should be considered a fringe WR1 the rest of the way.
