Cooper Kupp Injury Update Week 6

The Rams have been decimated by injuries on offense to start the regular season. Los Angeles has waited several weeks for Kupp to return from an ankle injury and McVay provided an encouraging update on Monday.

“That would be an ideal target, yes,” McVay said when asked about Adam Schefter of ESPN’s report that the Rams are eyeing Week 7’s matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders as Kupp’s potential return to action.

“The Raiders was always an optimistic target date, just based on a few weeks back,” McVay continued. “By no means is that guaranteed.”

While it certainly seems like Kupp could return in Week 7, McVay made sure to avoid stating that the Rams’ star wide receiver will return to action against the Raiders.

Given a 1-4 start to the regular season, Los Angeles needs all of the help that it can get following the team’s bye week. If Kupp can return in Week 7, it would provide a much-needed boost to the Rams’ underwhelming offense in 2024.

    Fantasy Implications of Kupp’s Injury

Before suffering a high ankle sprain, Kupp enjoyed an explosive start to the regular season. In Week 1, Kupp hauled in 14 receptions for 110 yards and one touchdown.

While the Rams also await the return of Puka Nacua, Los Angeles’ wide receiver room has primarily relied on three players during the absence of the team’s dynamic duo.

Tutu Atwell currently leads the Rams with 281 receiving yards on just 17 receptions. Atwell continues to bring a much-needed explosive aspect to Los Angeles’ passing attack. Many expected Demarcus Robinson to take a significant step forward as the team’s WR3 in 2024, but he has failed to stand out thus far. In five games, Robinson has 12 receptions for 189 yards and one touchdown.

Rookie wide receiver Jordan Whittington has been the surprise of the regular season for the Rams. Despite being selected in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, Whittington has carried his momentum from the preseason into the regular season in Los Angeles.

Whittington has hauled in 18 receptions for 201 receiving yards, as his role continues to grow with each passing week.

He is certainly a player to add to your fantasy football team, as Josh Norris of Underdog Fantasy highlighted how McVay utilized Whittington in a unique alignment in Week 5.
