Armstead has been the poster player for veterans’ days off, but that mindset has clearly changed. While a bunch of his established teammates got the day off Tuesday — the team’s only practice of the bye week — Armstead was on the field and participated.
He also took part in last Thursday’s fully padded practice.
That suggests Armstead believes he needs the work — even though he’s been one of the best tackles in football this year.
Armstead hasn’t given up a sack and has allowed just five pressures in 115 pass-blocking snaps this year, per TruMedia.
When asked what the team achieved in practice last week, Armstead replied:
“We saw improvement. We saw improvement from a technique standpoint. We saw improvement from operation, alignment, assignment, not having as many MAs, and all those things that stop you from winning, but we have to clean up a lot of those things at an accelerated rate in order to be a real team, you know what I mean?
“We could squeeze by, but (if) we want to be a team that’s going to be worth anything as far as the end of the year, we got to clean those things up at a little bit of a faster rate.”
Armstead in 2024 has been on the field for 215 of a possible 346 offensive snaps this year but will seemingly exit the bye in excellent health.
