NFL Week 1 Injury Tracker
Pittsburgh Steelers at Atlanta Falcons
- Steelers: QB Russell Wilson, QUESTIONABLE (ankle); WR Roman Wilson, OUT (ankle); G Isaac Seumalo, OUT (pectoral); DT Logan Lee, OUT (calf)
- Falcons: CB Antonio Hamilton, OUT (groin)
Steelers: On Thursday, Russell Wilson reported renewed tightness in his calf, the remnants of a training camp injury that cost him Pittsburgh’s first preseason game. Head coach Mike Tomlin said, “We’ll see what tomorrow looks like and kind of go from there.”
Wilson was limited on Thursday and Friday. Justin Fields will start under center if Wilson can’t play. “I’m trying to get my body ready to go and rock and roll,” Wilson said Friday. Just doing everything we can.”
Roman Wilson was also limited this week after suffering a high-ankle sprain during training camp. If he eventually gets healthy, he’ll be in the mix for targets behind George Pickens.
Seumalo and Lee didn’t practice all week. Tomlin ruled Seumalo out but said Pittsburgh received “good news” on his pectoral injury and referred to the veteran guard as week to week. Spencer Anderson, a 2023 seventh-round choice, will step in at LG.
Falcons: Tight end Kyle Pitts returned for full Thursday and Friday practices after a hamstring injury limited him on Wednesday.
Arizona Cardinals at Buffalo Bills
- Cardinals: WR Xavier Weaver, OUT (oblique); TE Tip Reiman, QUESTIONABLE (ankle); S Joey Blount, QUESTIONABLE (back)
- Bills: EDGE Dawuane Smoot, QUESTIONABLE (toe); EDGE Javon Solomon, OUT (oblique)
Cardinals: Weaver, a rookie UDFA out of Colorado who profiles as Arizona’s WR5/6, didn’t practice this week. Reiman, competing with Elijah Higgins to be the Cards’ TE2 behind Trey McBride, was limited.
Bills: Backup QB Mitchell Trubisky (knee) was upgraded to a full practice on Thursday and isn’t listed on Buffalo’s final injury report.
Tennessee Titans at Chicago Bears
- Titans: WR DeAndre Hopkins, QUESTIONABLE (knee); LB Otis Reese, OUT (concussion); CB Chidobe Awuzie, QUESTIONABLE (calf); S Jamal Adams, OUT (hip)
- Bears: WR Keenan Allen, QUESTIONABLE (heel); EDGE Montez Sweat, QUESTIONABLE (toe); EDGE DeMarcus Walker, QUESTIONABLE (groin); EDGE Darrell Taylor, QUESTIONABLE (foot); DT Zacch Pickens, OUT (groin)
Titans: Hopkins returned to practice this week for the first time since injuring his knee at the end of July. After a week of limited practices, Hopkins is questionable for Sunday and appears to be a game-time decision.
Bears: Allen is listed on Chicago’s injury report and was limited on Wednesday and Thursday. Despite his questionable tag, there’s been no indication he’s in danger of missing the Bears’ Week 1 game, and he was a full practice participant on Friday.
New England Patriots at Cincinnati Bengals
- Patriots: RB Antonio Gibson, QUESTIONABLE (hip); OT Vederian Lowe, QUESTIONABLE (abdomen); G Sidy Sow, OUT (ankle); EDGE Josh Uche, QUESTIONABLE (foot)
- Bengals: WR Ja’Marr Chase, QUESTIONABLE (rest); WR Tee Higgins, DOUBTFUL (hamstring); OT Amarius Mims, OUT (pectoral); DT Kris Jenkins, OUT (thumb)
Patriots: Gibson wasn’t listed on New England’s Wednesday injury report, suggesting he was injured during Thursday’s practice. His status on Friday will be worth watching.
Sow was the only injured Patriot who failed to practice this week. In his absence, Michael Jordan will likely take over at left guard. Lowe was limited this week; Chukwuma Okorafor will handle left tackle if Lowe doesn’t suit up.
Bengals: Chase, of course, isn’t injured. After sitting out most of the summer in a contract dispute, he returned to practice on Wednesday. Whether Chase lands a new deal from Cincinnati before Week 1 remains unclear.
On Friday, Chase spoke to the media and indicated that he would play against the Patriots without an extension in place. He also labeled himself a game-time decision. Chase suggested that he would be limited if he did suit up.
Higgins wasn’t listed on the Bengals’ Wednesday report. He appeared upbeat and said he felt “amazing” after Thursday’s limited practice. However, Higgins was absent for Friday’s practice and is now considered doubtful to face New England.
If Chase and Higgins both sit out, Cincinnati will deploy a Week 1 WR corps of Andrei Iosivas, Trenton Irwin, Jermaine Burton, and Charlie Jones.
Jenkins will undergo thumb surgery and won’t play on Sunday. Head coach Zac Taylor said the rookie DT could return for Week 2 against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Houston Texans at Indianapolis Colts
- Texans: S M.J. Stewart, OUT (knee)
- Colts: WR Josh Downs, OUT (ankle); K Matt Gay, QUESTIONABLE (hernia)
Texans: Stewart, who didn’t practice all week, is Houston’s only injured player. The 28-year-old played 166 defensive snaps and 142 special teams snaps for the Texans in 2023.
Colts: Downs suffered a high-ankle sprain during training camp, which put his Week 1 availability in doubt. He didn’t practice this week and was officially ruled out on Friday.
Head coach Shane Steichen said Downs is “progressing well,” while Downs said he ran routes this week. Second-round rookie Adonai Mitchell will handle slot work with Downs sidelined on Sunday.
If Gay can’t play against the Texans, the Colts will elevate fellow kicker Spencer Shrader from their practice squad.
Jacksonville Jaguars at Miami Dolphins
- Jaguars: S Daniel Thomas, QUESTIONABLE (Achilles)
- Dolphins: WR Malik Washington, OUT (quad); CB Jalen Ramsey, QUESTIONABLE (hamstring)
Jaguars: Jacksonville is healthy heading into Week 1. Thomas, a special teams ace who inked a two-year extension this offseason, was limited all week.
Dolphins: Ramsey returned for a limited Friday practice after agreeing to a three-year contract extension that made him the NFL’s highest-paid cornerback. Still, he’s not a sure thing to play against the Jags in Week 1.
If Ramsey can’t suit up on Sunday, second-year cornerback Ethan Bonner is in line to start. Bonner didn’t see a single snap on defense during his rookie regular season but did log 11 plays in the Dolphins’ Wild Card Round loss to the Chiefs.
Carolina Panthers at New Orleans Saints
- Panthers: TE Ian Thomas, OUT (calf); TE Tommy Tremble, OUT (hamstring/back); OT Yosh Nijman, QUESTIONABLE (tibia)
- Saints: WR A.T. Perry, QUESTIONABLE (hand); TE Dallin Holker, OUT (ankle); G Nick Saldiveri, QUESTIONABLE (calf); DT Khalen Saunders, OUT (calf); LB Willie Gay Jr., QUESTIONABLE (back); LB D’Marco Jackson, OUT (calf); LB Jaylan Ford, OUT (hamstring)
Panthers: Thomas and Tremble failed to practice this week. Rookie fourth-round TE Ja’Tavion Sanders could be in line to start for Carolina.
Saints: Perry and Saunders are New Orleans’ only starters who failed to practice this week. Cedrick Wilson Jr. and rookies Bub Means and Mason Tipton will be in line for additional playing time if Perry isn’t available against Carolina.
Fellow DTs like Nathan Shepherd, 2023 first-round pick Bryan Bresee, and recent trade acquisition John Ridgeway will see more interior snaps with Saunders sidelined for New Orleans’ season opener.
Minnesota Vikings at New York Giants
- Vikings: No injuries
- Giants: No injuries
Vikings: While wideouts Jordan Addison and Jalen Nailor battled ankle injuries this week, both have been removed from Minnesota’s injury report. The Vikings don’t have a single player with an injury designation heading into Week 1.
Giants: New York had five limited players on Friday (including starting defenders Brian Burns and Dane Belton and QB2 Drew Lock), but none will carry an injury designation into Sunday’s game against Minnesota.
Las Vegas Raiders at Los Angeles Chargers
- Raiders: OL Jackson Powers-Johnson, OUT (illness); EDGE Malcolm Koonce, OUT (knee); LB Tommy Eichenberg, QUESTIONABLE (knee); CB Decamerion Richardson, OUT (hamstring)
- Chargers: WR DJ Chark Jr., OUT (hip); CB Asante Samuel Jr., QUESTIONABLE (shoulder); CB Tarheeb Still (hip)
Raiders: While first-round rookie TE Brock Bowers had missed time with a foot injury this summer, he returned for limited practices on Wednesday and Thursday and fully practierd on Friday. Head coach Antonio Pierce said the first-round rookie will be ready for Week 1.
Koonce popped up on Vegas’ injury report on Thursday and was ruled out on Friday. The Raiders still have Maxx Crosby and Christian Wilkins up front, but Koonce’s absence will be felt against the Bolts.
Chargers: Chark came up limping during an Aug. 19 practice and hasn’t practiced since. Josh Palmer, Ladd McConkey, and Quentin Johnston will likely be Justin Herbert’s top three wide receivers on Sunday.
Samuel may have been injured during practice. He wasn’t listed on L.A.’s injury report until Friday.
Denver Broncos at Seattle Seahawks
- Broncos: No injuries
- Seahawks: WR Tyler Lockett, QUESTIONABLE (thigh); TE Pharaoh Brown, OUT (foot); EDGE Uchenna Nwosu, OUT (knee)
Broncos: Denver is starting the season off on a high note — the club doesn’t have a single injured player entering Week 1.
Seahawks: Although Lockett is questionable, head coach Mike Macdonald said Friday that that veteran WR is expected to play against Denver.
Brown and Nwosu were Seattle’s only two DNPs this week. Nwosu sprained his MCL in the Seahawks’ preseason finale on Aug. 24 and was expected to miss two to six weeks.
Dallas Cowboys at Cleveland Browns
- Cowboys: TE John Stephens Jr., OUT (hamstring)
- Browns: OT Jedrick Wills Jr., OUT (knee); OT Jack Conklin, QUESTIONABLE (knee)
Cowboys: Stephens, a 2023 UDFA, spent his rookie season on injured reserve. He was the only Dallas player who didn’t practice today.
Browns: Wills and Conklin ended the 2023 campaign on injured reserve and still aren’t at full health heading into 2024.

Wills was downgraded to DNP on Thursday and officially ruled out on Friday. The Browns could shift Conklin to the blind side, but he’s questionable for Week 1. Cleveland’s backup offensive tackles are Dawand Jones and James Hudson III.
Washington Commanders at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- Commanders: QB Marcus Mariota, OUT (chest); DT Johnny Newton, DOUBTFUL (foot)
- Buccaneers: DT Logan Hall, OUT (foot)
Commanders: Jeff Driskel will back up Jayden Daniels with Mariota sidelined on Sunday.
Buccaneers: Hall was the only Tampa Bay player who failed to practice this week. He won’t play against Washington but could return in Week 2. William Gholston will take on more responsibilities with Hall out.
Los Angeles Rams at Detroit Lions (SNF)
- Rams: OT Rob Havenstein, QUESTIONABLE (knee)
- Lions: DT D.J. Reader, QUESTIONABLE (quad); S Ifeatu Melifonwu, DOUBTFUL (ankle); S Loren Strickland, OUT (thumb)
Rams: Los Angeles sent CB Darious Williams (hamstring) to injured reserve on Thursday, meaning he’ll miss at least the first four games of the season.
Warren McClendon will start at right tackle for the Rams if Havenstein can’t play. L.A. is already without starting left tackle Alaric Jackson, who’s suspended for the first two games of the year. Joe Noteboom will handle Matthew Stafford’s blindside against Detroit.
Wide receiver Puka Nacua (knee) and offensive lineman Jonah Jackson (shoulder) were banged up during training camp but fully practiced this week.
Lions: Head coach Dan Campbell said Reader has “a chance” to suit up on Sunday night. While Detroit had initially targeted Week 2 as a potential return for Reader — who tore his quad with the Bengals in December before signing with the Lions this offseason — the veteran DT was a limited practice participant all week.
New York Jets at San Francisco 49ers (MNF)
- Jets: G Wes Schweitzer (hand)
- 49ers: RB Christian McCaffrey (calf, Achilles); RB Isaac Guerendo (groin); WR Jauan Jennings (ankle); G Aaron Banks (finger); EDGE Yetur Gross-Matos (knee); LB Dee Winters (ankle); S Talanoa Hufanga (knee)
Jets: Schweitzer was New York’s only player not practicing on Thursday. He’ll be a depth interior lineman when healthy.
49ers: McCaffrey didn’t participate in training camp or the preseason after injuring his calf this summer, and he was limited during Thursday’s practice. San Francisco added an Achilles injury to his injury designation, but this is the same issue CMC has been dealing with for a while.
On Friday morning, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport indicated that McCaffrey will be ready for Week 1.
Gross-Matos and Winters were the only 49ers not practicing on Thursday. Every other injured player was at least limited.
