However, the commentating crews that keep everyone informed and engaged are certainly an integral part of the production as well. Included in that is Melissa Stark, the sideline reporter for NBC’s Sunday Night Football.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Stark’s interest in sports began when she attended Baltimore Colts games as a kid. Eventually, after graduating high school as class valedictorian, she attended the University of Virginia. She majored in Foreign Affairs and Spanish, graduating magna cum laude.
Her career began in 1991, when she became a news intern on the assignment desk at WMAR-TV in Baltimore. She joined ESPN in 1996, becoming the host of the weekly program Scholastic Sports America. She also reported for ESPN’ SportsCenter from 1996-2003, where she served as a regular contributor to Sunday NFL Countdown.
Her first lead sideline reporting job came for ABC Sports from 2000-2003, where she worked on Monday Night Football for three seasons. She also covered Super Bowl XXXVII and was a reporter for figure skating, the NFL Pro Bowl, and celebrity golf events.

In addition to NBC, Stark spent time with NFL Network. She did field work on NFL Total Access and Around The League while also hosting the channel’s gameday show First on the Field and GameDay First.
Stark was laid off from NFL Network during major staff cuts in early 2024. As a result, her focus is now on her NBC duties.
