    Giants vs. Jets Game Preview

The stakes might be lower than their regular-season clashes, but the intensity remains, as both the Giants and Jets want momentum on their side before Week 1.

The New York teams have a long history when it comes to the preseason. They faced off 51 consecutive summers from 1969 to 2019 and then starting again in 2021. The Jets are leading the series 28-25-1.

Jets head coach Robert Saleh has already confirmed that star quarterback Aaron Rodgers and other key starters won’t take the field against the Giants. After a productive preseason filled with joint practices against quality opponents, Saleh believes his starters have had enough reps.

“We’ve gotten so much good work done with three quality opponents over the course of three weeks,” Saleh said.

This means that Rodgers will make his Jets debut on September 9 against the San Francisco 49ers. But the Jets have impressed without their starters, boasting a 2-0 preseason record with hard-fought victories against the Washington Commanders and Carolina Panthers. Their defense has been particularly strong, allowing just 29 points over two games, a trend they’ll look to continue against the Giants.

On the Giants’ side, head coach Brian Daboll remains undecided on how much playing time his starters will see. Daboll is currently focused on the bigger picture.

“We’ll go out there, we’ll practice today, and make our decision in a couple of days,” Daboll said, indicating that game-day decisions will be made closer to kickoff.

After a joint practice session with the Jets, Daboll stated:

“Look, it was a productive practice all the way around. That’s how you want to practice against another team.”

With the regular season just around the corner, both teams are eager to wrap up the preseason on a high note — and healthy. This matchup, steeped in tradition, might be a preseason contest, but for the players fighting for roster spots, it’s anything but a warm-up.
