Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, are in the headlines again. This time, the news comes off the NFL field and back to college football. The superstar has donated $5 million to his alma mater, Texas Tech.
Patrick and Brittany Mahomes’ Generous Gift
This contribution will become part of the $242 million South End Zone and Dustin R. Womble Football Center project, which began when the Chiefs quarterback was still leading the Red Raiders’ offense. It has been a pivotal part of Texas Tech Athletics’ Campaign for Fearless Champions.
“When we first launched this campaign, Patrick was only a freshman and now it is fitting that we approach the end of the campaign with a gift of his own,” said Texas Tech Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt.
In honor of their gift, Texas Tech plans to name its soon-to-be-completed walkthrough area in the Womble Football Center after Mahomes. The quarterback meeting room and the offensive coordinator’s office in the new South End Zone Building at Jones AT&T Stadium will also bear his name.

“We couldn’t be prouder to announce this gift from Patrick and Brittany Mahomes. We are so proud of Patrick for all he has accomplished and how he has continually supported Texas Tech on a global scale,” Hocutt added.
The Chiefs QB’s dedication to Texas Tech goes beyond this donation. Despite having a jam-packed NFL schedule, endorsement appointments, and whatnot, he’s been a regular presence at Red Raiders events, attending games and supporting various athletic programs. Last year, he even returned to campus for his induction into the Texas Tech Hall of Fame and Ring of Honor.
Patrick Mahomes’ College Football Stats With Texas Tech Red Raiders
Before Mahomes became a household name in the NFL, giving nightmares to defenses and securing two MVP awards, he was setting records at Texas Tech. As the Red Raiders’ quarterback from 2014 to 2016, Mahomes put up some of the most jaw-dropping numbers in college football history.
Mahomes burst onto the scene as a freshman, starting the last three games of the 2014 season and immediately making an impact. He torched opponents like Oklahoma and Baylor, racking up 1,319 passing yards and 14 touchdowns in those games alone.
Standing 6’3″ and weighing in at 230 pounds, the future Hall of Famer was a menace on the field. In his final season at Texas Tech, he led the nation with a staggering 5,052 passing yards, 41 touchdowns, and just 10 interceptions.
That wasn’t enough for the future NFL star. He wasn’t just a threat through the air—Mahomes also rushed for 285 yards and punched in 12 touchdowns on the ground, displaying his dual-threat capability for NFL suitors.
Over his three-year college career, Mahomes completed 857 of 1,349 passes (63.5%) for 11,252 yards, throwing 93 touchdowns against 29 interceptions. He added another 845 yards and 22 scores on the ground.
At Texas Tech, he wasn’t just a quarterback; he was a phenomenon that left defenses scrambling for their lives. Now, he’s using his NFL success to give back to the school that helped put him on the map.
