    Published on

Matthew Stafford's return to practice headlines today's NFL training camp news, which also includes a starting tight end not practicing.

With the 2024 NFL regular season just two weeks away, teams around the league are deep into training camp practices preparing for the final week of the preseason. Now that the camps are in full swing, club decision-makers can better understand how their rosters look before Week 1.

With that in mind, we’re tracking news, injury reports, and more coming out of training camps. Here are the top stories from Tuesday’s NFL practices.

    NFL Training Camp News Tracker

Mark Andrews Still Not At Practice for Ravens

    • Ahead of Tuesday’s practice, the Baltimore Ravens had a lengthy list of impact players who would not suit up. According to Jamison Hensley of ESPN, TE Mark Andrews, C Tyler Linderbaum, CB Marlon Humphrey, OL Patrick Mekari, CB Arthur Maulet, and OLB Adisa Isaac were held out of practice.
    • Andrews was involved in a car accident earlier this month but reportedly did not sustain any serious injuries.
    • Hensley also mentioned that S Eddie Jackson, WR Devontez Walker, RB Rasheen Ali, ILB Josh Ross, and DT Josh Tupou each returned to the field.

Chuba Hubbard Back After Injury Scare.

    • Since taking what looked to be a nasty fall last week in practice that could have potentially kept him out a while, Panthers running back Chuba Hubbard was back in action on Tuesday. Hubbard has the lead spot for RB1 in Carolina, with prized rookie Jonathan Brooks still on the PUP list as he recovers from a torn ACL last year at Texas.

Amari Cooper and David Njoku Not Practicing for Browns

    • Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski told the media ahead of Tuesday’s practice that wide receiver Amari Cooper would be back on the field today following exiting Thursday’s practice. However, Cooper was seen walking on the practice field with a group of players who were not suited up and expected to participate.
    • Among those not practicing was David Njoku, who was slow to get up on Thursday and looks to be dealing with the injury as he sat out Tuesday’s session.

Updates Around CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott at Cowboys Camp

    • Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy was asked about the team’s preparations while CeeDee Lamb was away and how things may differ. McCarthy stated, “It’s something we reconvene every single night (about).” Brandin Cooks continues to operate as WR1 for the Cowboys in Lamb’s absence.
    • What was a fun preseason wrinkle in 2023 looks to be possibly returning in 2024. Last season, McCarthy let quarterback Dak Prescott be the offensive coordinator for the final preseason game; when asked about it on Tuesday, he didn’t rule out the possibility of it happening again.

Matthew Stafford Returns to Rams After Hamstring Issue

    • Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford returned to team drills on Tuesday, setting the stage for the veteran to work back into the swing of things ahead of Week 1. He ultimately participated in half of the team reps after returning from hamstring tightness. His status for Thursday’s joint practice with the Texans is unknown.

Aaron Rodgers and C.J. Mosley Receive Days Off

    • Both Aaron Rodgers and linebacker C.J. Mosley were given vet days on Tuesday. Head coach Robert Saleh stated that much of the work for the day will be centered around the second- and third-string units. Rodgers called Jets’ camp “much harder” than last year, saying it was “maybe the hardest in the last seven or eight of my career.”

Rookie Set to Start on Steelers Offense

    • According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Steelers have put starting center Nate Herbig on the injured reserve with a torn rotator cuff. The injury ends Herbig’s season, clearing the way for second-round pick Zach Frazier to be the starting center for Week 1.
    • Head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters that while running back Jaylen Warren is out this week with a hamstring injury, he doesn’t expect it to be a long-term absence. Warren is expected to be back to rejoin Najee Harris as the Steelers’ one-two punch in the backfield in time for their Week 1 game at Atlanta.

Injuries and Holdouts Continue for 49ers

    • Both wide receiver Ricky Pearsall and safety Talanoa Hufanga did not participate in practice on Tuesday for the 49ers. Pearsall aggravated a shoulder injury earlier this month, opening the door for fellow rookie Jacob Cowing to earn more reps. Cowing totaled 70 yards, including four first downs on five touches in the preseason game versus the Saints. Hufanga continues his rehab from a torn ACL last season.
    • Off the field, head coach Kyle Shanahan states, “Zero updates. Nothing has changed” regarding the contracts of Brandon Aiyuk and Trent Williams.
