Should I Draft D’Andre Swift? Fantasy Outlook for the Bears’ RB in 2024

D’Andre Swift is one of the most talented running backs in the NFL. The issue is we never see him put this talent on tape for 17 games, waiting for him to shine through for years on multiple teams.

Now, Swift finds himself with the Chicago Bears, and we wonder if his fantasy outlook can finally shine in the Windy City.

Let’s analyze Swift’s 2024 fantasy outlook and determine whether his average draft position (ADP) of No. 64 overall is fitting.

D’Andre Swift’s Fantasy Profile for the 2024 NFL Season

Most people do not realize that Swift gained the fifth-most rushing yards last season with the 14th-best average of yards per rush (4.6).

Few noticed these stats because his former quarterback, Jalen Hurts, and the Philadelphia Eagles’ famous “Tush Push” limited his touchdown upside. From a rushing perspective, he only crossed the line five times last season, which was 24th-best in the league.

Swift’s athletic ability shined last year, ranking among the top 20 in explosive run rate. The issue is that he was 40th overall in yards after contact.

His speed shined, but Swift showed no ability to produce in the strength department. According to TruMedia, he was the 33rd-ranked rusher in third-down conversion rate.

Another issue for Swift is his new location. Let’s start with Chicago’s backfield.

The running back room is still crowded. Khalil Herbert has shined in his moments as a starter, and second-year RB Roschon Johnson is capable of producing in the NFL. Both running backs are solid pros, which makes the pecking order difficult to figure out.

Plus, there’s even more talent surrounding Swift outside of that, as the Bears have elevated their passing game. They have already added Keenan Allen and Rome Odunze to a wide receiver room with DJ Moore.

This commitment to the pass comes after drafting Caleb Williams first overall. Even with a rookie quarterback under center, the Bears are expected to air it out more than in years past, limiting Swift’s upside in 2024.

Is Swift a Good Fantasy Pick?

You should fade Swift in your drafts this season.

There are too many cooks in the Chicago kitchen, with a rookie head chef. The team may be better when it relates to wins/losses, but for fantasy football, everybody will eat into each other’s productions.

Even without a bye week concern (Week 7), we can’t make a strong case for Swift at his ADP when you can draft players such as Tank Dell, Kyler Murray, Najee Harris, and Jordan Love ahead of him.

We know the talent is there for Swift, but his talent works best for Madden and less for real football in this situation.
