Garrett Wilson and A.J. Brown are two receivers who will be the stats leaders on their respective teams, but which one is better for your fantasy football team?
Below, I’ll examine both players’ outlooks and the fantasy football strategy behind taking them, determining which player is the safer choice. Let’s dive in.
2024 Fantasy Outlook for Garrett Wilson
We’ll finally get to see what this connection between Wilson and quarterback Aaron Rodgers will look like. There have been some preseason reports of them arguing, but this isn’t something I’m overly worried about. In fact, if they weren’t arguing, I think I’d be more worried. That illustrates passion and care for getting things going in a positive direction.
According to TruMedia, Wilson saw 168 targets, caught 95 passes, ran 674 routes, and went for 1,042 yards and three touchdowns.
Wilson played in all 17 games, and these stats came with a collection of QBs headlined by Zach Wilson, who’s now fighting for a roster spot on the Denver Broncos. Rodgers is a future Hall of Fame quarterback, but he’s coming off a torn Achilles.
Behind Wilson on the receiving depth chart are Mike Williams, Xavier Gipson, and rookie Malachi Corley. I also suspect running back Breece Hall will get plenty of action.
Before 2022, Rodgers was a consistently top performer at the quarterback position, but his Green Bay Packers roster featured a plethora of young receivers, and the offense struggled.
The Jets have a Week 12 bye week.
2024 Fantasy Outlook for A.J. Brown
The Eagles gave Brown a massive contract, but he does have some other competent weapons with which to compete. He’s on an offense with DeVonta Smith, tight end Dallas Goedert, running back Saquon Barkley, and quarterback Jalen Hurts.
Hurts had 15 rushing touchdowns, Smith will demand targets, Goedert has 50 catches waiting to happen, and Barkley is a threat on the ground and in the passing game.
Brown saw 158 targets and caught 106 of them for 1,456 yards and seven touchdowns.
He finished as WR4 and averaged 18.1 points per game, which was sixth at the position.
He was also targeted 20+ yards downfield on only 17.8% of his targets, a slight dip from 21.2% in 2022.
Who Should I Draft in 2024?
This might be a bold pick by me, but I think I’m going with Wilson here despite what PFN’s Consensus Rankings say.
Brown will be incredibly productive, as usual, but he does have a new weapon to contend with in Barkley. Meanwhile, Wilson has proven to be productive despite his quarterback, and now, he’ll see a massive upgrade to the position.
Before Rodgers, Wilson got plenty of targets and catches, but the yardage and touchdowns weren’t there. I think that changes this year, and we will finally get a WR5 or better season from Wilson.
Get ready for a Wilson breakout. Rodgers will elevate him massively.
