Madden NFL 25 launched worldwide this past week, and we’ve had a few days to get used to and digest the game.
There are definitely a few surprises with the teams’ overall ratings. After playing the game for a few days, here are the most overrated and underrated teams in Madden 25.
Top 5 Most Overrated Teams in Madden NFL 25
Detroit Lions (88 Overall)
Although they have the best offensive line in Madden NFL 25, we all know that offensive line doesn’t really matter that much in a video game.
On offense, the Lions are definitely usable with two solid running backs, two good receivers, and a great tight end.
However, their defense is absolutely atrocious in this game. Speed is king in Madden, and there is zero speed on this Detroit defense.
Good luck stopping a team like the Chiefs or Ravens out there.
Dallas Cowboys (88 Overall)
The Cowboys come in at 88 overall, but are really lacking in some of the most important positions in the game.
The running back and tight end departments may be the worst in the entire game, and while CeeDee Lamb is a stud, the rest of Dallas’ receivers are very subpar. Not to mention, the offensive line is not what it used to be, to say the least.
The one bright spot on this Cowboys roster is the edge rushers, led by superstars Micah Parsons and Demarcus Lawrence.
Pittsburgh Steelers (85 Overall)
I was seriously shocked to see the Steelers received an 85 overall rating in Madden NFL 25, as they have one of the worst offenses in the game.
Whether you use Justin Fields or Russell Wilson at quarterback, they may have some speed, but their passing attributes are seriously lacking.
The Steelers’ running back room rivals the Cowboys as one of the worst in the game, and their receivers have some speed but are less than ideal in the route running and catching ratings.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (84 Overall)
Led by safety Antoine Winfield Jr. and wide receiver Mike Evans, the Buccaneers have some potential but are definitely a tad bit overrated in this year’s version of the game.
It seems the game developers gave the Bucs too much credit for their Divisional Round playoff run last year.
Tampa lacks serious talent at the pass-rushing and cornerback positions, which are two of the most important in Madden football.
New Orleans Saints (83 Overall)
The Saints just seem like an older team both in the real NFL and on the virtual gridiron.
The defense is pretty solid with players like Marshon Lattimore, Chase Young, and Demario Davis, but the offense lacks talent.
Running back Alvin Kamara is getting older and is not fast enough for what we want in Madden. Chris Olave is good but isn’t the type of player we want in a No. 1 WR. And although Rashid Shaheed has the speed, he does not come equipped with the route running we need at that spot.
The Saints, in my opinion, should be rated closer to the high 70s or 80 overall in EA Sports Madden NFL 25.
Top 5 Most Underrated Teams in Madden NFL 25
Green Bay Packers (81 Overall)
The fact that the Packers are rated lower than the Steelers, Buccaneers, Saints, and even Cowboys is very questionable. I mean, they did beat the Cowboys in the postseason, didn’t they?
The Packers come loaded with speed in this year’s game, especially at receiver and cornerback. Jordan Love is vastly underrated as well and has the best release attribute in the game.
Jacksonville Jaguars (82 Overall)
I know the Jaguars have disappointed recently in the real NFL, but in Madden NFL 25 they are a really good team.
Trevor Lawrence has some of the best abilities in the game at the quarterback position, and Travis Etienne Jr. is one of the best running backs in the game.
The Jags are loaded with speed at the receiver and tight end positions, as well, with Brian Thomas Jr., Devin Duvernay, Gabe Davis, and Evan Engram leading the charge.
Los Angeles Chargers (82 Overall)
Jim Harbaugh’s new squad is vastly underrated in Madden NFL 25 and is really good on the defensive side of the ball.
The offense is lacking talent for the most part but can be made up for with quarterback Justin Herbert.
Defensively, the Chargers are one of the few teams with two good edge threats in Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa. Derwin James is an absolute beast in Madden, holding down the Chargers’ secondary.
Chicago Bears (81 Overall)
The revamped Chicago Bears may be one of the most fun teams to use in Madden NFL 25.
No. 1 overall draft pick Caleb Williams leads the way and has some really nice speed in the game. The skill players are loaded with D’Andre Swift, Keenan Allen, DJ Moore, and new draft pick Rome Odunze.
The defense is also very capable, led by Montez Sweat and Jaylon Johnson.
Seattle Seahawks (80 Overall)
If you can function with Geno Smith at quarterback, the Seahawks are one of the best underrated teams in the game. They have three of the best studs in Madden at three different positions.
Wide receiver DK Metcalf is insane in this game at 6’4″ with 96 speed.
Tariq Woolen may be the best corner in the game, non-ratings-wise, at 6’4″ with 97 speed.
And don’t forget about Kenneth Walker III at running back with 94 speed. He comes equipped with the “arm bar” ability, allowing him to stiff-arm defenders.
