Tyrone Tracy Jr. Injury Update: Should Fantasy Football Managers Be Worried About the Talented Giants RB?

    Published on

New York Giants RB Tyrone Tracy Jr. was carted off of the practice field on Tuesday. What kind of fantasy impact will this have on Devin Singletary in 2024?

New York Giants RB Tyrone Tracy Jr. was starting to generate a fair amount of sleeper buzz since the start of training camp, with reports suggesting he was very much in the mix for the RB2 spot behind Devin Singletary entering the 2024 NFL season.

Unfortunately, Tracy suffered an injury at practice today — which could jeopardize his status for the 2024 NFL season.

Here is the latest update we have and the potential fantasy football impact for the rest of the Giants’ backfield.

Latest News Surrounding Injury Tyrone Tracy Jr. and His Injury

A recent report from Pat Leonard on X delivered some heartbreaking news for the Giants’ 2024 fifth-round pick.

Any time the cart comes out, it is reasonable to be concerned a player suffered a major injury.

But later in the day, it sounded as if Tracy escaped serious injury.

According to ESPN Giants reporter Jordan Raanan, “there is hope Tyrone Tracy Jr.’s leg injury is not as bad as it looked,” and the rookie running back is already back at team meetings.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo later reported that sources told him Tracy’s injury is a sprain.

Tracy was one of my sleeper targets at the RB position entering the 2024 NFL season.

Singletary is certainly a competent veteran back and is familiar with Giants head coach Brian Daboll’s offensive scheme from their time together with the Buffalo Bills. But Tracy’s explosiveness and pass-catching versatility made him a candidate to get on the field on third downs early in his career and potentially see his role expand if he provided a spark to the Giants’ offense.

This injury could certainly change the outlook of New York’s offense entering the year.

Singletary still has the inside track to lead the backfield in total touches, but Eric Gray stands to gain the biggest bump in fantasy football drafts if Tracy’s injury is serious enough that it could keep him off the football field for a large portion — or the entirety — of the upcoming season.

Gray flashed in his 2024 preseason debut with 52 rushing yards and two touchdowns on only four carries in the Giants’ win over the Detroit Lions. He had a very quiet rookie year with just 17 carries for 48 yards and six receptions for 22 yards with no scores while working behind Saquon Barkley last year.

If Gray can continue to make the most of his opportunities over the Giants’ two remaining preseason games, he could make a compelling case for a consistent role in this New York offense in 2024.

Singletary still presents a very fair draft day price in the eighth round at No. 95 overall as the RB34 off the board. You may see his ADP climb slightly if Tracy’s injury turns out to be serious.
