Kim and Terry Pegula’s Net Worth: How the Buffalo Bills’ Owners Made Their Fortune

    Published on

Kim and Terry Pegula acquired the Buffalo Bills in 2014 -- what does their net worth look like with multiple ownerships?

Kim and Terry Pegula have owned the Buffalo Bills since 2014 when the team was placed up for sale following the death of Ralph Wilson, the team’s founder and owner.

Terry won the bid for the Bills against former president Donald Trump and musician Jon Bon Jovi, showing you how wealthy he is. How much is Kim and Terry’s net worth, and how does it compare to other NFL owners?

What Is Kim and Terry Pegula’s Net Worth?

Kim and Terry have a combined estimated net worth of $8 billion, while the organization’s worth is $3.7 billion.

Terry’s estimated net worth alone is $6.8 billion, making his fortunes in the fracking industry, starting in 1983 when he founded East Resources. In 2010, he sold the bulk of his company’s assets to Royal Dutch Shell plc (now Shell plc) for $4.7 billion. Terry and his wife Kim married in 1993 and have been in business together ever since.

In 2011, they purchased the Buffalo Sabres for $189 million. In 2014, they bought the Bills for $1.4 billion.

Following the purchase, Kim and Terry reorganized their sports franchises and record label Black River Entertainment into a new company, the now-dissolved Pegula Sports & Entertainment, at which Kim was the president and CEO. She helped coin the term “One Buffalo” and is also involved with the NFL Foundation.

They now own the Bills, Sabres, Rochester Americans, Buffalo Bandits, Rochester Knighthawks, and JKLM Energy Natural Gas Tycoon along with multiple other investments. What’s next — the city of Buffalo?

During their tenure as an owner, the Bills have yet to reach or win a Super Bowl. Under the Pegulas’ tenure, they have a record of 97-65 over 10 seasons.

Where Do the Pegulas Rank Among NFL Owners?

Kim and Terry are worth $8 billion together, putting them inside the top 20 of NFL owners.

The Pegulas have owned the Bills for 10 seasons. During that time, the Bills have reached the postseason six times but have not yet competed for a Lombardi Trophy. They have been close multiple times, including the devastating AFC Championship Game loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in 2020.

The Bills have had continued success in the regular season, which could increase the net worth of owners Kim and Terry if they continue that path or if they decide to purchase another organization or company. However, with critical losses on both sides of the ball, their plan to make a Super Bowl is harder now.
