When it comes to dynasty fantasy football, we naturally focus on player rankings. But our recent PFN Franchise Frenzy Dynasty startup, in which we drafted shares of teams and the right to draft their players, caused me to look at putting together some team by team dynasty rankings for 2020.
I analyzed the dynasty assets on each team and ranked them based on the number of players and their value. Each week I’ll announce eight spots in the rankings, concluding with the team I believe has the most dynasty talent.
PFN’s 2020 Team by Team Dynasty Rankings: 32-25
32. New York Jets
It’s tough to get excited about the Jets. Sam Darnold is the key to so much of their potential. He’s now approaching his third season and has taken only minor steps forward since entering the league. There are flashes there, but he’s in an unenviable situation. Supporters will point to the ever-increasing sense of doom surrounding head coach Adam Gase, but Darnold needs to show more.
Le’Veon Bell looked a far cry from the player who you used to build your fantasy team around. He struggled to find gaps behind a bad offensive line, posting the lowest yards per carry of his career, and he rarely got close to the end zone. He’s still only 28, but he needs to return to form quickly.
Breshad Perriman played his way to a starting job at the tail end of last season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but the vertical offense of Bruce Arians and Jameis Winston played much more to his strengths, and he’s been a massive disappointment for the majority of his career. He and Denzel Mims will look to pick up where Robby Anderson left off, but fantasy owners will be praying for more deep shots in Gase’s game plan.
Chris Herndon’s season never really started in 2019 thanks to a suspension and an injury, but he was one of the top young tight ends in the league as a rookie. If he can find his way back to that level, then he has top 10 upside at the position.
31. Washington
Washington is one of the teams with the potential to overachieve on these rankings. Dwayne Haskins may not ever be a top fantasy quarterback. He’s at his best when he’s getting the ball to his playmakers early, and he’s not going to make plays with his legs. After throwing four interceptions without a touchdown in his first two games, he looked to take a step forward late in the year, though. Seven touchdowns and three interceptions in his final six games may not be exciting, but he could be a top 20 QB if it continues.
Derrius Guice has had a tough introduction to the NFL, with his first two seasons derailed by injury. We know that he has talent. He showed that in college, and that’s why he was a second-round pick. If he can stay healthy, then he could be the workhorse of this offense and one of the top running backs in the league.
Terry McLaurin impressed as a rookie despite inconsistent QB play and looks to have a very bright future. He’s a big-play threat every time he touches the ball, and it won’t take much for him to be a perennial 1,000-yard receiver.
30. Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jags have a lot of question marks. There were times when Gardner Minshew navigated the pocket like Aaron Rodgers, extending plays and exciting fans. There were also times when it was clear that he was a sixth-round rookie. The team appears committed to him for 2020, but few quarterbacks have the range of outcomes that Minshew does.
No matter what happens with Leonard Fournette, you know that he’s guaranteed touches for as long as he’s a Jaguar. He’s entering the last year of his rookie contract, though, after the team declined his fifth-year option, and the future is uncertain.
DJ Chark was one of the breakout players of 2019, firmly establishing himself as a top 20 wide receiver with his first 1,000-yard season. He showed great chemistry with Minshew and will be the Jags’ WR1 for the foreseeable future. Laviska Shenault should see time opposite him. The versatile playmaker had a disappointing final season at Colorado but was one of the top prospects in college a year ago. If he can find consistency, then he could be a steal for the Jags.
[sv slug=dynastysocial]29. Chicago Bears
Mitchell Trubisky has had some relatively productive fantasy games, but last season was ugly. He held the offense back. He’s still young enough to turn it around, but he doesn’t look as if he’ll ever be a player you want to be tied to your fantasy team. Nick Foles was brought in to provide competition, but the Bears’ long-term answer doesn’t look to be on the roster.
General Manager Ryan Pace is already under fire for selecting Trubisky over Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson. Another poor season could lead to his replacement deciding to move in a different direction.
David Montgomery underwhelmed as a rookie, but the opportunity is there. It isn’t a complicated or unpredictable committee. Montgomery will get 250 carries, and that’s valuable. Tarik Cohen will continue to act as the pass-catcher out of the backfield, and it would only take a marginal improvement from his QB to help him make better use of the 100 targets he received in 2019.

Allen Robinson has been cursed by bad quarterback play for his whole career, but he’s still managed to be productive, and at only 26 years old, looks to have plenty of good seasons in front of him. He’ll likely be the main beneficiary if the Bears improve at the QB position, whether that’s Trubisky, Foles, or a new addition. Anthony Miller flashes potential every season. He had two games with over 100 receiving yards in the space of three weeks but finished the season with games of two yards and five yards. He needs to find consistency if he’s to take that next step.
