NFL Games Today: Preseason Week 1 Sunday Schedule, Start Times, How to Watch, and More

    Published on

With Week 1 of the NFL Preseason underway, here's a look at when the rest of the NFL game today begin this weekend, including start times, TV channels, and more.

After three days of NFL preseason action, when do the rest of the Week 1 preseason games kick-off?

With only two more matchups on the books, let’s take a look at when the rest of the NFL games kick off this weekend, including start times, channels, livestream options, and more.

Are There Any NFL Games Today? Sunday’s Short Schedule

Week 1 of the NFL preseason has only two games being played on the Sunday. With a full 11-game slate on Saturday, there is not a lot left for the remainder of the weekend.

Here is a look at the two games being featured on NFL Network today.

    Denver Broncos at Indianapolis Colts

Sunday’s NFL action kicks off at 1 p.m. ET as the Denver Broncos head to Lucas Oil Stadium to take on the Indianapolis Colts.

Year 2 under Sean Payton in Denver looks extremely different. QB Russell Wilson is gone, signing with the Steelers after getting cut in the offseason. WRs Courtland Sutton and RB Javonte Williams remain on the roster, but WR Jerry Jeudy was traded to the Browns.

With no real answer at quarterback, Denver drafted former Oregon QB Bo Nix with the 12th pick of the 2024 NFL Draft. Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson are battling Nix for the starting job.

On defense, the Broncos identified some players in free agency to bolster a Vance Joseph-led group that really tightened things up down the stretch. Safety Brandon Jones joins from Miami in free agency while the team also added former Saints DT Malcolm Roach to the defensive line rotation. Despite these moves, Denver is still a few years away from competing in the AFC West.

However, the Colts are poised for a bounceback in QB Anthony Richardson’s return. The second-year QB will play a few series in the preseason opener in his first NFL action since suffering a season-ending shoulder injury in Week 5 of the 2023 season. Despite his limited play, Richardson took the league by storm, winning two of his first four games and showcasing his unique talents at the quarterback position.

With RB Jonathan Taylor under contract and with the team to start the season, Richardson can utilize first-team All-Pro RB to take some pressure off his need to run the ball. The injury to Josh Downs’ ankle is a bummer, but given it’s just a sprain, the Colts’ second-year wide receiver shouldn’t miss much regular season time, if any.

With Downs, Michael Pittman Jr., and 2024 second-round pick Adonai Mitchell, Indianapolis has formed a lovely trio for Richardson to target.

While limiting their action on offense, the extensions were flying on the defensive side. DE Tyquan Lewis, DT Grover Stewart, CB Kenny Moore II, and LB Zaire Franklin all signed extensions this offseason. The Colts also brought in safety Julian Blackmon and DT Raekwon Davis.

As Indianapolis gears up for another season, if Richardson can stay relatively injury-free, the Colts should be right up there with Houston for the top spot in the AFC South. Today’s matchup against the Broncos is just the start.

The final NFL preseason game of the week sees the Cowboys head to SoFi Stadium to take on the Rams.

The Cowboys have had a very intriguing offseason of doing … just about nothing to change the roster.

Dallas has seemingly made no headway on extensions for QB Dak Prescott, WR CeeDee Lamb, or LB Micah Parsons. With three franchise cornerstones waiting to be paid, the price is only getting higher as time passes. While Dallas did minimize some losses, it couldn’t save everyone, as RB Tony Pollard and LT Tyron Smith left in free agency.

While the Cowboys would reunite with RB Ezekiel Elliott, he and Rico Dowdle are not enough to replace the touches left by Pollard’s void. Additionally, with Lamb’s holdout reaching new heights, if the first-team All-Pro WR doesn’t get a deal or end his holdout, the roster depth chart behind him looks a bit lackluster.

Lamb has led the Cowboys in receiving since 2021 and had more than double the amount of receiving yards than the next WR in 2022 and 2023.

While Prescott and Lamb won’t see much preseason action, getting those issues settled means a lot for the future. Fans will likely get their first glimpse of former 49ers 2021 third-overall pick Trey Lance in a Cowboys uniform as the quarterback gets set to make his Dallas debut.

Their host, the Rams, are ready to pick up where they left off last season in 2024, primed for another postseason run. Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp’s comebacks, combined with the breakout of rookie sensation Puka Nacua, pushed the Rams to a 10-7 record, clinching an NFC Wild Card spot.

The loss of DT Aaron Donald hurts, but the Rams drafted edge rusher Jared Verse and DT Brandon Fiske from Florida State to double-dip early on the defensive line. While it will be extremely difficult to replace one of the greatest defensive tackles of all time, filling the rotation back up with new players is of the utmost importance.

Los Angeles also needed to address a weaker secondary, and this was done by bringing in CBs Darious Williams and Tre’Davious White. While White is coming off an Achilles injury, the Rams hope he will return to his elite performance in Buffalo. At the same time, both add a veteran presence for third-year corners Derion Kendrick and Cobie Durant. Safety Kamren Curl also joins the Rams after spending four seasons with the Commanders to round out the secondary overhaul.

There are quite a few new faces on the Rams’ defense, so seeing how quickly they gel together will be intriguing as the preseason rolls along into the beginning of the regular season.

With no Matthew Stafford in the preseason and Jimmy Garoppolo suspended/in the veteran group, expect to see a lot of Stetson Bennett and Dresser Winn in the preseason.
