How Many Picks Do the Commanders Have in the 2025 NFL Draft?
Currently, the Commanders have nine picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. They recently acquired three selections from the Philadelphia Eagles as part of the Jahan Dotson trade.
There was another trade that would have changed the Commanders’ late-round outlook slightly, had its conditions been fulfilled. Late in the 2022 season, the Pittsburgh Steelers traded for cornerback William Jackson III, in a proposed sixth- and seventh-round pick swap.
The trade would have given the Commanders an extra sixth-round pick while costing them a seventh-round pick. However, Jackson proceeded to play zero downs for the Steelers. Thus, the trade’s conditions were not fulfilled and the trade reverted.
In August, the Commanders traded DT John Ridgeway III and their Round 6 pick to the New Orleans Saints for a 2025 fifth-round pick.
At the deadline in November, the Commanders traded away their Round 3, Round 4, and Round 6 picks for Marshon Lattimore and the Saints’ Round 5 pick.
What Are the Commanders’ Biggest Needs in 2025?
The Commanders’ roster has the feel of a unit that is close. The core looks much better now than it did leading into the 2024 offseason. That said, there’s still work to do, and certain positions are particularly in need of reinforcements.

Irrespective of the sides of the ball, one position that stands out as a major need for the Commanders is cornerback. Emmanuel Forbes has not proven himself as an impact player thus far, and other options like Benjamin St-Juste and veteran Michael Davis will be free agents in 2025.
The Commanders were able to add Mike Sainristil as a potential high-level nickel defender in the 2024 NFL Draft. That said, the rest of the secondary is very suspect, and that includes safety. Jeremy Chinn and Darrick Forrest are pending free agents, and Quan Martin still has more to prove behind them.
Beyond the secondary, there are other potential needs to make note of. On offense, wide receiver could emerge as a growing need. Terry McLaurin is stellar, but he’s getting older, and Jahan Dotson hasn’t quite lived up to his first-round billing.
Elsewhere, the offensive line could soon need further fine-tuning. Samuel Cosmi is expected to be an extension candidate, but Andrew Wylie is more of a stopgap at right tackle, and Brandon Coleman will have to prove his mettle on the left side.
Shifting to defense one last time, the EDGE rotation could use more depth and long-term starting potential, and linebacker is also a long-term need. Jamin Davis is a pending free agent, as is veteran Bobby Wagner.
