Football never sleeps. While the 2024 NFL regular season is still weeks away, teams around the league are deep into training camp practices. Now that the pads are back on, clubs’ decision-makers can get a better idea of how their rosters look before Week 1.
With that in mind, we’re tracking every bit of news coming out of training camps. Here are the top stories from Monday’s NFL practices.
NFL Training Camp News Tracker
Carolina Panthers
- The Panthers avoided a significant injury scare. An MRI revealed that first-round rookie WR Xavier Legette suffered no fractures in his foot after going down this weekend, head coach Dave Canales told reporters on Monday (via Darin Gantt of the team’s official site).
- Carolina considers Legette week to week, but he’s not expected to play in the Panthers’ first preseason game.
Cleveland Browns
- Browns pass rusher Za’Darius Smith was carted off at Monday’s practice after suffering a knee contusion, the club announced. He will be re-evaluated on Tuesday morning.
- Smith, 31, posted 5.5 sacks and 20 QB hits in 2023 after Cleveland acquired him from the Vikings. He re-signed with the Browns this offseason on a two-year, $23 million deal.
Cincinnati Bengals
- Bengals DE Cam Sample will miss the 2024 season after tearing his Achilles last week in practice, as Pro Football Network’s Jay Morrison writes.
- “Offensive tackle Trent Brown, who was cleared to practice Sunday, made his camp debut but participated only in individual drills. Speaking with reporters after practice, he didn’t seem too bothered by the fact that he missed nine practices and is battling a first-round pick for a starting job.” — Read Monday’s full Bengals practice report from Morrison.
Dallas Cowboys
- Cowboys RB Royce Freeman spent time in the injury tent on Monday before leaving practice altogether, per The Athletic’s Jon Machota. Freeman has earned praise this offseason and is competing for RB3 duties behind Ezekiel Elliott and Rico Dowdle.
Green Bay Packers
- Packers TE Tucker Kraft (pectoral) passed his physical on Monday and was removed from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, according to ESPN’s Field Yates. Head coach Matt LaFleur said Sunday that he expected Kraft to return to practice this week.
- Kraft started eight games after Green Bay selected him in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He’ll compete with fellow TE Luke Musgrave for snaps this season.

Las Vegas Raiders
- While Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce doesn’t plan to announce a starting quarterback for Saturday’s preseason game against the Vikings, he said Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew II would each get an opportunity this weekend.
- “We’ve still got two more true training camp practices, then we’ve got Wednesday, Thursday, and then that’s when we’ll start looking at what we want to do game-wise,” Pierce said Monday. “Like I said, both quarterbacks are gonna play a legit quarter. Who goes out first and who goes out second really doesn’t matter. (They will) get hopefully an equal amount of snaps and opportunity to showcase.”
Los Angeles Rams
- Rams WR Puka Nacua is week to week after suffering a knee injury over the weekend, as Josiah Caswell of Pro Football Network writes. Nacua got up slowly during a drill in the Rams’ joint practice against the Chargers on Sunday.
Miami Dolphins
- “On a Miami Dolphins roster stacked with superstars, head coach Mike McDaniel chose a little-known linebacker who was a college wide receiver to wear the orange practice jersey Monday. Quinton Bell’s wardrobe change (and control of Monday’s PA playlist) was his reward for having the best practice of any Dolphins player on Saturday.” — Read Monday’s full Dolphins practice report from Pro Football Network’s Adam Beasley.
New England Patriots
- “With Thursday’s preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers looming, New England heavily focused on the running game, situational football, and actual tackling. This was the most physical practice since the start of camp, and none of the quarterbacks were asked to do anything particularly difficult.” — Read Monday’s full Patriots practice report from Pro Football Network’s Dakota Randall.
New York Giants
- Giants head coach Brian Daboll said QB Daniel Jones won’t face any restrictions during this week’s practices, per Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports. Jones tore his ACL against the Raiders on Nov. 5.

- NFL players facing their first criminal offense regarding alcohol use are subject to a three-game suspension, per the league’s substance abuse policy.
Philadelphia Eagles
- Eagles WR Parris Campbell (groin) didn’t practice on Monday, per Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philly. Campbell had been leading Philadelphia’s WR3 battle, but his absence has opened the door for sixth-round rookie Johnny Wilson, among others.
