The NFL regular season is fast approaching, and training camp is in full swing across the league. Preseason action officially gets underway tonight, as the Houston Texans and Chicago Bears face off in the Hall of Fame Game.
With the season nearly off and running, we’re tracking all of the news coming out of today’s training-camp practices. Here are the top stories ahead of Friday’s NFL practices.
NFL Training Camp News Tracker
Baltimore Ravens
- According to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic, the sun was blazing in Baltimore on Thursday afternoon, prompting head coach Jim Harbaugh to cut practice short.
- Zrebiec also reported that guard Ben Cleveland headed for the training room early, although he wasn’t able to confirm if it was heat-related or not. He did state that Daniel Faalele had a hard time in the conditions.
Dallas Cowboys
- The Dallas Cowboys brought in four pass rushers for a workout on Thursday following the season-ending injury to EDGE Sam Williams. Following the workout, Dallas opted to sign Al Quadin Muhammad and Shaka Toney, according to DallasCowboys.com’s Patrik Walker.
- While Carl Lawson was the biggest name that worked out for the team on Thursday, the Cowboys decided to go in a different direction following the workouts as they look to fill the void left by Williams’ injury.
- Rookie Marshawn Kneeland is also expected to step up and take on a bigger role following Williams’ injury, as PFN covered yesterday.
Los Angeles Chargers
- Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is expected to miss some time due to plantar fascia issues in his right foot, the team announced on Thursday afternoon. In the meantime, Herbert will be in a walking boot and will gradually work back from the injury.

New York Jets
- With NFL training camps in full swing, we have seen a few players decide to retire from the game. According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, that looks to be the case for Jets RB Tarik Cohen.

Seattle Seahawks
- Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith was not present at Thursday’s light practice, according to The News Tribune’s Gregg Bell. He was told that Smith was getting work done on his knee and hip after taking a hit and falling in Tuesday’s scrimmage.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers outside linebacker YaYa Diaby was carted off the field on Thursday following an ankle injury.
- Fortunately, according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, Diaby’s MRI seemed to indicate that he avoided a serious injury, and the Bucs will focus on getting him ready to play in Week 1.
Tennessee Titans
- The Tennessee Titans will have to rely on their new offensive additions for a while, as star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins will miss at least a month. According to Paul Kuharsky, Hopkins suffered a knee strain that will keep him sidelined for four-to-six weeks.
