Who Are the Best Running Backs To Draft in Fantasy?

    Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco 49ers

Some fantasy takes can be a bit redundant among analysts in the industry. This year, the one that feels nearly unanimous is that Christian McCaffrey is the top-ranked fantasy running back entering the 2024 NFL season.

In 2023, McCaffrey’s 2,023 total yards and 21 touchdowns from scrimmage made him the top-scoring RB in non-PPR by 100.8 fantasy points over the RB2 overall.

San Francisco’s offense was highly productive and, at times, flirted with historic efficiency. McCaffrey is still at the peak of his powers in an offensive scheme that is tailor-made to his dynamic skill set.

Don’t overthink this one. McCaffrey should be the first running back selected in your fantasy draft this year.

    Breece Hall

Breece Hall was a PPR darling with his league-leading 76 receptions amongst running backs, which led to an RB2 overall finish on one of the worst offenses in the NFL.

This RB2 finish showcased the type of ceiling many thought Hall possessed when he entered the league two years ago. That makes his fantasy ceiling of an RB1 overall feel very much in play with the unquestioned upgrade under center the Jets’ offense will see going to Aaron Rodgers under center.

To give you an idea of how bad New York’s offense was last year at producing goal-to-go scenarios, Hall saw fewer carries from inside the 5-yard line than Royce Freeman, Samaje Perine, and Darrell Henderson. The fact he produced an RB2 overall finish last year in this putrid offense where he saw only two carries from inside the 5 is absolutely mind-blowing.

If this Jets offense modestly improves into an average unit this upcoming season, Hall could pair his big-play and pass-catching ability with a double-digit TD ceiling in 2024, making him worthy of a top-five pick in fantasy drafts.
