    Published on

The Rams made one key promotion and lured in new faces ahead of 2024. Who is brand new in Los Angeles and who holds a new role?

Sean McVay has been head coach of the Los Angeles Rams since 2017, but this offseason, he once again dealt with turnover among his staff.

Ahead of the upcoming season, the Rams’ 2024 staff features multiple newcomers on both sides of the ball, including a new defensive coordinator.

    • Chase Blackburn, Special Teams Coordinator
    • Eric Yarber, Wide Receivers Coach
    • Ryan Wendell, Offensive Line Coach
    • Chris Beake, Safeties Coach
    • Nick Caley, Tight Ends/Passing Game Coordinator
    • Rob Calabrese, Offensive Assistant
    • Giff Smith, Defensive Line Coach/Run Game Coordinator
    • AC Carter, Assistant Defensive Line Coach
    • Joe Coniglio, Outside Linebackers Coach
    • Greg Williams, Inside Linebackers Coach
    • Chili Davis, Assistant Special Teams Coach

    • Ron Gould, Running Backs Coach
    • Mike Harris, Defensive Assistant

McVay, who has two Super Bowl appearances and one Super Bowl win on his impressive resume, enters his eighth season at the helm of the Rams with most of his 2023 staff intact. However, one major absence is that of former defensive coordinator Raheem Morris, as he’s now the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons.

Morris’ departure prompted Shula’s elevation from linebackers coach to the defensive coordinator spot Morris vacated.

LaFleur returns for his second season as offensive coordinator. While working with McVay, LaFleur helped the Rams return to the top 10 in total offensive yards (No. 7) after falling to 32nd in 2022.

But McVay endured one more major loss on his staff. Zac Robinson joined Morris in Atlanta to take over the Falcons’ offense. Robinson was credited for helping produce Matthew Stafford’s breakout first season with the Rams in 2021 as his QB coach.

New Additions to the Rams’ Coaching Staff

Shula was internally promoted to that defensive coordinator role. McVay and the Rams, though, had to fill one other prominent coaching spot on defense.

Eric Henderson left the Rams to join the USC coaching staff. Henderson became beloved among the Rams for producing highly productive defensive lines, with future Hall of Famer Aaron Donald leading the way.

Giff Smith now gets the Donald-less defensive line. Smith was recently the interim head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers following Brandon Staley’s firing in 2023.

Offensively, McVay has added former New York Jets quarterbacks coach Rob Calabrese to his staff. He was with the Jets from 2021-23 and has past Jets ties with LaFleur.

Calabrese isn’t the only newcomer to the Rams’ offensive staff. Former Falcons offensive coordinator Dave Ragone takes over for Robinson as the team’s QBs coach.

Scheelhaase is the last addition to McVay’s staff. Scheelhaase, though, is coming to LA via Iowa State, where he was offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach at the college level.
