Jonah Savaiinaea’s Draft Profile | Arizona, OT Scouting Report

    Published on

With his 2025 NFL Draft scouting report, can Arizona's Jonah Savaiinaea follow Jordan Morgan's footsteps and break into Round 1? He just might.

With his scouting report, could Jonah Savaiinaea give the Arizona Wildcats another first-round offensive lineman in the 2025 NFL Draft after Jordan Morgan went in Round 1 to the Green Bay Packers a year earlier? Savaiinaea is still young, but already, he’s shown plenty of promise.

Jonah Savaiinaea’s Draft Profile and Measurements

    • Height: 6’5″
    • Weight: 330 pounds
    • Position: Offensive Tackle
    • School: Arizona
    • Current Year: Junior

The 2025 NFL Draft OT class is wide open — about as wide open as it can get. But there’s one school from the 2024 crop that could maintain representation near the top of the board. That school is Arizona, and the player is Savaiinaea.

If you watched Morgan in the lead-up to the 2024 NFL Draft, chances are Savaiinaea caught your eye. Whether he’s pulling as a run blocker and climbing to the second level, or sealing out pass rushers with forceful hands, Savaiinaea makes his presence felt on tape.

Jedd Fisch had the same impression of Savaiinaea when he brought him in as an under-recruited three-star talent out of St. Louis High School in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Though Savaiinaea was slept on as a recruit, he was one of the stars of the Polynesian Bowl in his respective cycle. And after arriving at Arizona’s campus, he immediately entered the starting conversation. Savaiinaea ended up starting 12 games at right guard in his true freshman season.

In 2023, he moved to right tackle and manned the OT spot opposite Morgan. In doing so, Savaiinaea earned honorable mention Pac-12 recognition. Now, he’s on the 2025 NFL Draft circuit with a chance to earn similar acclaim.

    Strengths

    • Supersized blocker with elite mass and frame density, as well as solid length.
    • Surges out of his stance with energy and zeal, and can quickly match rusher depth.
    • Hyper-explosive, rangy athlete in space, who can cover ground and attack defenders.
    • Explosiveness, mass, length, and leverage amount to elite power capacity off the snap.
    • Active, energized lateral mover with great corrective mobility and rapid foot speed.
    • Employs stellar natural leverage and knee bend in pass protection, squaring up rushers.
    • Can keep his balance while matching with smooth weight distribution on lateral moves.
    • Has the strong base and torquing capacity to plow edge setters out of gap positioning.
    • Flashes the core and grip strength to violently latch, nullifying power rushes and stunts.
    • Proactively uses a forceful outside hand to corral rushers and block off the apex path.
    • Has shown to quickly redirect and drop the anchor with his malleable footwork.
    • Has the flexibility to vary his set angle and base alignment based on situational factors.
    • Possesses the awareness to recognize and drag adjacent stunting threats with his hands.
    • Tenacious blocker who eagerly seeks to finish and bury defenders in open space.
    • Has an abundance of experience at tackle and guard, as well as projected versatility.

    Weaknesses

    • Proportional length, while solid, falls short of the elite mark.
    • With non-elite length, occasionally over-extends past his center of gravity.
    • Has a habit of extending before his base is set, sourcing lurches and imbalance.
    • Can still improve his upper-lower synergy to limit lurches and losses of composure.
    • Sometimes gets baited into bending at the waist when recovering against counters.
    • At times, drifts too far out of his kick and oversets, leaving inside counter paths open.
    • In spite of lateral mobility, can improve his depth discipline and overall base positioning.
    • Can be uncontrolled with his footwork against more deceptive rushers, losing leverage.
    • Punch and latch placement could be more precise at the contact point.
    • Sometimes keeps his hands too wide in his initial stance, exposing his frame to power.
    • At times, can better load, extend, and make clean contact with his initial punches.
    • With high-mass frame, lacks elite hip flexibility, which can limit recovery at the apex.

    Current Draft Projection and Summary

Entering the 2025 NFL Draft cycle, Savaiinaea grades out as a late first-round prospect, who could rise into the early-to-mid first-round range with another good year. Savaiinaea has the tools and disposition to be one of the top offensive linemen in the 2025 class, regardless of positional designation.

Savaiinaea is unique, in that he already has two full years of starting experience at the collegiate level as just a two-year player. In his true freshman season, he was the full-time starting right guard from the jump. In his second season, he started at right tackle.

Savaiinaea’s immediate acclimation at the college football level speaks to his learning capacity and work ethic. On the field, those two intangible traits have combined with his high-end physical tools to form an extremely compelling early-round profile.

Though the true junior still has room to further refine his depth discipline and hand precision at the apex, Savaiinaea is an uber-athletic blocker with rare explosive capacity and short-area quickness for his 6’5″, 330-pound frame.

Going past the physical traits, Savaiinaea also shows promise on the operational side. He’s a balanced, adaptable footwork technician who can use independent hands. He stays alert and active when faced with stunts, and can leverage his traits into menacing power in the run game.

Given his non-elite length and how his high-mass frame detracts slightly from his hip flexibility, some evaluators may see Savaiinaea as a future guard. That said, with his athleticism, size, and adaptable framework, he has all the tools needed to be a high-quality starting OT with schematic versatility.
