This offseason has been a challenge for Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice. Following what was an impressive rookie year that was capped off with a Super Bowl title, Rice’s time away from the field has been a tumultuous one.
Despite all the public missteps that have muddied his time following the season’s conclusion, Rice spoke with the media on Saturday and reflected on the last few months for the first time publicly.
Rashee Rice Speaks Publicly on Off-Field Issues
On Saturday afternoon, Rice and his teammates Skyy Moore, Hollywood Brown, Xavier Worthy, and Mecole Hardman hosted a football camp for the area youth. And with media members in attendance, Rice was able to speak about his life over the last few months and discuss his mindset through it all.
“Being grateful for every day,” he said. “Nothing possible without the grace of God, so we just out here trying to share the love and be blessed for every opportunity we get.
“I’ve learned so much from [the offseason troubles]. All I can do is mature and continue to grow from that. This is a step in a better direction for me. Accidents and stuff like that happen but all you can do is kind of move forward and walk around being the same person and try to be positive so that everybody could feel your love and your good energy.”

Rice spoke with remorse and a sense of clarity, a man who has been through a lot this offseason at the hands of his wrongdoings. However, despite the transgressions that have followed him this NFL offseason, being at a camp for kids with all of his teammates gave Rice a chance to understand the impact and maybe look at the bigger picture as well.
“It’s great to be able to come out here and have an impact in the community,” Rice said. “Especially since… memories aren’t too short, so we kind of remember exactly how it feels to be out here and how it feels wishing that we would be in the NFL.”
Rice’s Legal Issues This Offseason
Following what was the pinnacle of his professional life and a thrilling Super Bowl victory, it’s been a downward trajectory for Rice this offseason.
On March 30, in Dallas, Rice and his former SMU teammate, Theodore Knox, were involved in a multi-vehicle crash. Both are facing eight criminal charges and are being sued civilly by the victims of the crash.

In addition to the traffic incident, Rice is also currently under investigation for allegedly punching a photographer in a Dallas nightclub on May 6. However, the photographer has signaled that he wants the charges dropped.
Yet, despite the victim’s request, it’s another case of misjudgment from Rice this offseason. And when it comes to the league offices, there doesn’t need to be charges to receive punishment.
