After an embarrassing end to last season, Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni knew it was time for change. Which is exactly why he made the tough decision to overhaul the team’s offense by hiring offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.
Now that Moore has been in the City of Brotherly Love for a few months, he’s beginning to leave his mark on the franchise. As mandatory minicamp began on Tuesday, both Sirianni and wide receiver DeVonta Smith discussed the job that Moore has done thus far.
Nick Sirianni Believes Kellen Moore Is Doing an ‘Awesome Job’
It was clear that Philadelphia’s offense became stagnant last season, so Sirianni is embracing change with Moore’s arrival. Following his success in Dallas and Los Angeles, Moore is set to work with arguably the most talented roster that he’s ever had.
Sirianni spoke with the media on Tuesday and discussed how impressed he is with Moore’s ability to communicate. Given all of the talent and star power on Philadelphia’s roster, it could potentially be difficult for a coach to command their attention. Yet, Sirianni doesn’t believe that’s an issue at all for Moore.
“I think Kellen’s (Moore) doing an awesome job leading the offense,” Sirianni said. “Think he’s doing an awesome job in front of the room, out in the field. Really pleased with Kellen, he’s as advertised, and excited about the direction we’re going and the work that, you know, that they’re putting on the offense side.”

Although it might be difficult for Sirianni to hand over control of the offense to Moore, he seems to be embracing the change. As a former offensive coordinator himself, Sirianni is used to having control and final say, but Moore seems to be earning the Philadelphia head coach’s trust early on in the process.
“Kellen has a brilliant offensive mind,” Sirianni said. “Has a great, unique way of explaining it to his coaches and to the players. And just again, like I said, really excited about where we are and some of those tweaks are really awesome.”
DeVonta Smith Excited for New Opportunities in Moore’s Offense
Smith has enjoyed quite the offseason after signing a massive three-year contract extension with the Eagles. Yet, he seems just as excited about Moore’s arrival and a new offensive scheme in Philadelphia.
While Smith has had plenty of success during his first three NFL seasons, many believe he’s yet to reach his full potential. Despite his strong performance in 2023, Philadelphia’s predictable offense certainly didn’t help Smith take his game to new heights.
Which is likely why Smith is excited about the new style of offense that Moore is going to bring to Philadelphia in 2024. Smith met with reporters on Tuesday and discussed Moore’s arrival and the potential changes to the team’s offense.
DeVonta Smith says the new Eagles’ offense under Kellen Moore will allow players to do things they “weren’t allowed to before,” such as players moving in motion.

“I think it’s going to do great,” Smith said when asked about Moore’s offense. “Get a new style of offense around. Be able to do things that we weren’t allowed to do. Moving guys around, things like that.”
After having an inexcusably low motion rate last season, Philadelphia’s offense is expected to utilize motion at a significantly higher rate under Moore’s watch. Given the Eagles’ talent on offense, moving players around pre-snap will only prevent more challenges for opposing defenses to deal with.
Although Smith and A.J. Brown are already regarded as one of the top wide receiver duos in the NFL, they could ascend to another level in 2024. Early indications seem to suggest that Moore is off to a hot start in Philadelphia at the start of mandatory minicamp.
