After enrolling at FSU following a stint at Michigan State, Keon Coleman made a significant impact for the Seminoles as a big-bodied, 6’4″ wideout.
The receiver is still on the board on Friday and could be a target for several teams looking for physicality and ball skills at the WR position.
Update: Keon Coleman was drafted with the first pick of the second round in the 2024 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills (No. 33 overall).
Keon Coleman’s Draft Stock
Heading into the draft, Coleman was expected to be a fringe first-round, early second-round talent.
Coleman was a multi-sport athlete in high school who played six games under Basketball Hall of Fame head coach Tom Izzo at Michigan State in 2021, but football was his specialty.
A four-star recruit in the 2021 cycle, Coleman began his collegiate football career at Michigan State. He later transferred to Florida State University to play in Mike Norvell’s offense and was a focal point of the Seminoles’ passing attack in 2023.
In his sophomore season at Michigan State, Coleman produced 58 receptions for 798 yards and seven scores.
Before his final collegiate season, Coleman transferred to FSU and quickly became one of Jordan Travis‘ favorite targets in 2023, catching 50 passes for 658 yards and 11 TDs for the Seminoles.
Outside of his touchdown production, Coleman’s numbers last year weren’t among the elite at the position, but he played a significant role in FSU’s passing game en route to an undefeated regular season.
Coleman is 20 years old, making him one of the younger prospects entering the 2024 NFL Draft. He will turn 21 in May, shortly after the annual selection event takes place.
Pro Football Network Draft Analyst Ian Cummings listed Coleman as his WR8 in his scouting report and said he is a surprisingly enthralling three-level threat.

“Coleman’s most marketable phase of play is his catching ability. He can naturally box out and out-reach defenders at the catch point and expand beyond his pure size with extraordinary catch-point instincts, contortion ability, hand-eye coordination, and an extremely proactive alpha mentality,” Cummings wrote. “Being an elite contested-catch and red-zone threat is a plus, but Coleman also has exciting utility as a separator and RAC weapon.”
New England Patriots
There was a rumor the New England Patriots would trade out of the No. 3 spot, but New England stuck to the plan and took Drake Maye. The next step is to get him a legitimate target on the outside.
The Patriots can do that with Coleman, who is an elite contested catch threat with ability after the catch.
Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo Bills’ top need is unquestionably a wideout.
Stefon Diggs finally was traded to the Houston Texans this offseason, while Gave Davis departed in free agency. Josh Allen’s top three WRs are currently Curtis Samuel, Khalil Shakir, and Mack Hollins. It shouldn’t be surprising if the Bills target a pass catcher like Coleman at 33.
Washington Commanders
Coleman would give the Washington Commanders another great target for Jayden Daniels, who the team selected at No. 2 overall.
