EDGE Chop Robinson’s Elite Athleticism Jumps Off the Page

It’s safe to say that Robinson is an elite athlete. Pro Football Network Dolphins Insider Adam H. Beasley detailed the 21-year-old’s athletic ability and what it entails.

“According to the Relative Athletic Score, Robinson tested in the 98th percentile for his position at the NFL Scouting Combine,” Beasley wrote.

“He had off-the-charts results in the 40-yard dash (4.48) — including absurd splits at 10 (1.53) and 20 yards (2.6) — the broad jump (10’8″), and shuttle (4.25).”

Robinson Answers Questions on Lack of Production at Penn State

The new Dolphins player answered questions from reporters about his lack of production at the collegiate level. While Robinson’s 11.5 sacks in three seasons weren’t particularly remarkable, he did have 74 pressures on 397 pass-rush snaps since 2022, an 18.6% pressure rate.

“Oh, for me, it was just being inconsistent with my hands,” Robinson said. “I know I had the speed and the bend, but sometimes I forget to use my hands. But that’s something that I’ve been working on this whole offseason.”

    He’s not too worried.

“And I feel very confident because I’ve been working on this so much repeatedly, and I know it’s going to be natural when it comes to time to put my hand to use,” Robinson continued.

Why Miami Didn’t Select an Offensive Lineman in Round 1

Robinson became a popular name among Miami’s brass to select in the first round of this year’s draft. His athleticism and raw power became a hot topic within the war room. However, selecting him meant that the Dolphins would pass over offensive linemen, which is a large area of need, at least from an outside perspective.

Troy Fautanu went No. 20 to the Pittsburgh Steelers, just one spot ahead of the Dolphins. The Green Bay Packers selected Jordan Morgan at No. 25, while Graham Barton went 26th to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Dallas Cowboys picked Tyler Guyton at No. 29.

Still, general manager Chris Grier isn’t as concerned with the makeup of the current offensive line. Furthermore, his team could continue adding pieces as time goes on the draft.

“We still think those guys will keep improving [with] the job they did last year with how we were moving the ball and scoring,” Grier said. “[We’re] very excited.

“Again, the draft’s not over, and again there’s always still free agency to add pieces to come in. So, again, we’re excited with the guys we have in the room. We added a couple of guys through free agency and we’ll keep looking at it, but we’re excited with the guys we have in the room.”

NFL Network Analysts Like the Robinson Selection

There was high praise for Robinson by NFL Network’s Lance Zierlein and Daniel Jeremiah.

“He has a rare explosion that reminds you of Micah Parsons coming off the edge. He can be a super effective player in the next 2-3 years,” Zierlein said on NFL Network, via All Dolphins.

Jeremiah raved about Robinson’s athletic ability.

“This is a fastball off the edge,” Jeremiah said. “He’s a little raw as a pass rusher, but he’s an explosive athlete. He wins early in the down as he uses his quickness off the ball.”
