Roman Wilson’s 40 Time: How Fast Is the 2024 NFL Draft Prospect?

    Published on

Get to know Roman Wilson's 40-yard dash time, as the speedy receiver looks to help an NFL team win big games like he did at Michigan.

Michigan’s Roman Wilson is one of the top wide receivers in the 2024 NFL Draft after a successful college career with the Michigan Wolverines.

Wilson capped off a successful career by winning the 2023 National Championship against the Washington Huskies. He had three catches for 54 yards in that game.

While Wilson isn’t the fastest receiver in his class, he has plenty of athletic promise that NFL general managers will be all over in the NFL Draft.

Roman Wilson’s Impressive NFL Combine Performance

Wilson measured a little bit smaller than anticipated at the NFL Combine.

At just 5’10 3/4″, and 185 pounds, the conversation out of the Senior Bowl and Combine was not about his smaller frame, but instead, his playmaking ability.

The Michigan receiver impressed throughout drills, and paired with his sound tape during his four years at Michigan, he all but secured his spot as a second-round draft pick.

    How Fast Is Wilson?

Wilson’s 4.39-second 40-yard dash put him in the 86th percentile in direct comparison to his peers at wide receiver.

During his four seasons with the Wolverines, Wilson averaged 16 yards per catch, proving to be a reliable midfield and downfield threat. He exploded onto the scene as a senior, scoring a career-high 12 touchdowns.

    How Old Is Wilson?

Born June 19, 2001, Wilson is 22 years old. He will turn 23 before the first game of his rookie season.

Wilson is a slightly older prospect who could fit a receiver-needy team that is ready to utilize his skill set sooner than later.

    Wilson’s Latest Scouting Report

Wilson has always had uncommon dynamic range, but in 2023, his production on the field matched the profile.

In Wilson’s scouting report, Pro Football Network draft analyst Ian Cummings referred to the Michigan receiver as a turbocharged athlete with raw explosiveness, speed, and dynamism.

“Wilson has elite hyper-explosiveness, angle-destroying long speed, hyperactive short-area agility, and twitch to go along with smooth flexibility and sink as a route runner,” Cummings wrote.

At times, Wilson struggled to stay healthy. Between his unavailability at times, smaller frame, and below-average blocking grades, Cummings suspects Wilson could fall beyond the third round if teams are uncertain of his ability to translate his explosiveness to the next level.

However, if Wilson can be consistent and healthy at the next level, he possesses the game-breaking explosiveness and versatility to be a valuable rotation weapon in the NFL, and could develop into an even better receiver than he was in college.
