There are just a few days until the 2024 NFL Draft kicks off, and the San Francisco 49ers will nearly wait all night to make their selection. It’s also a question of whether the team will add another weapon to its already stacked defense or beef up its imposing offense.

NFL Draft Analyst Has 49ers Selecting OT in Latest Mock Draft

Very similarly to Pro Football Network Draft Analyst Ian Cummings, fellow PFN writer Tony Catalina mocked Oklahoma offensive tackle Tyler Guyton to the 49ers with the No. 31 overall pick.

Guyton is a 6-foot-8, 322-pound offensive tackle who graded out with a total score of 83 at the NFL Scouting Combine, ranking seventh among all draft-eligible players at his position in 2024.

“When you are at the backend of the draft, you are at the mercy of the board,” Catalina writes. The 49ers let it fall to them and take a tackle they can build with into the future. The trenches have always been a strength for these 49ers teams, and Tyler Guyton could be an interesting piece injected into that room.”

49ers Beef Up Defense in Latest Mock Draft

In Round 2 of Catalina’s mock draft, the 49ers picked Michigan defensive tackle Kris Jenkins at No. 63 overall. Jenkins is 6-foot-3, 299 pounds, and played an integral role in keeping the opposing team’s running game in check for the Michigan Wolverines. He had 4.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and an interception in 2023.

As for the team’s third-round selection at pick 94, Catalina has the 49ers taking TCU cornerback Josh Newton. Newton played three of his five collegiate seasons at Louisiana-Monroe and completed his last two years at TCU. He had 21 pass deflections while with the Horned Frogs.

Gap Could Be Bridged on New Brandon Aiyuk Deal if Not Traded During Draft

The 33rd Team’s Ari Meirov broke down fact and fiction surrounding potential draft day moves. One that has been oft-discussed is a possible trade of 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.

“I would not say the San Francisco 49ers want to move Brandon Aiyuk, but the draft will be a critical pressure point in this saga. Aiyuk wants a top-market receiver contract, and the 49ers are nowhere close to that right now,” Meirov wrote.

“If the 49ers still have Aiyuk on the roster after Friday, that should signal they are confident they’ll bridge the gap.”
