The Florida State Seminoles were absolutely loaded with offensive talent during their impressive 2023 campaign, but few players boasted a more unique physical profile than imposing WR Johnny Wilson along that side of the ball.
Here’s everything you need to know about Wilson and his evaluation as a prospect in the 2024 NFL Draft.
How Tall Is Johnny Wilson?
To call Wilson a bit of a unicorn among the plethora of impressive wide receiver prospects entering the league this year would not be an understatement.
Wilson is a massive 6’6” receiver, which puts him in the elite 98th percentile in direct comparison to his positional counterparts.
If his height didn’t already give him an elite catch radius, then perhaps his 84 3/8” wingspan (100th percentile) and 37” vertical (70th percentile) help paint a better picture of just how uncommonly tall and long Wilson is for a receiver entering the NFL.
How Much Does Wilson Weigh?
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the excessively tall Wilson also falls in the 97th percentile in the weight category, tipping the scales at 231 pounds. He is far from a rail-skinny prospect and carries his weight very well.
Wilson’s testing numbers showcased both his vertical (4.52-second 40-yard dash time) and lateral speed (4.11-second 20-yard shuttle), which gives him a very nice athletic profile to go with his elite catch radius.
How Old Is Wilson?
Wilson just turned 23 years old earlier this month and will play out the entirety of his rookie season at that age.
Overall, Wilson is in the middle of the pack for age in comparison to all of the other receivers in this class, but he is a touch older than most of the other top prospects at the position who are expected to be Day 2 picks.
What School Did Wilson Go To?
Wilson may be a bit more known for his productive days as a member of the Seminoles, but he actually spent the first two years of his collegiate career as a member of the Arizona State Sun Devils. He transferred to FSU ahead of the 2022 season and spent his final two years in college playing for the Seminoles.
Revisiting Wilson’s College Career
Wilson’s college career got off to a bit of a slow start due to the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season, which limited Wilson to catching just six passes for 89 yards over three game appearances in his true freshman campaign.
Wilson saw a slightly expanded role in 2021, producing 12 receptions for 154 yards and a score in his final season with the Sun Devils.
After two years of limited production with Arizona State, Wilson would emerge as a legitimate weapon on the outside in his first year with the Seminoles in 2022. He caught 43 passes for 897 yards and five TDs as a redshirt sophomore.
An injury to quarterback Jordan Travis didn’t do Wilson any favors regarding his statistical output in 2023, but he still managed to catch 41 passes for 617 yards and two scores while contending with Keon Coleman, Jaheim Bell, and Trey Benson for touches in a loaded Florida State offense during his final collegiate season.
Wilson’s Potential in the NFL
Wilson undoubtedly has one of the most unique receiver profiles in the 2024 NFL Draft. His size, athleticism, and body control all give him a catch radius that rivals every receiver in this class.
Yet, Wilson is a far more fluid and twitchy athlete than anyone would come to expect from a receiver of his size. He has legit ball carrier skills and can be a competent YAC threat at the NFL level.
Another encouraging sign is Wilson’s flashes as a smooth operator with a plus-level stem IQ to win at the top of his route.

Yet, the flashes don’t completely overpower some of Wilson’s potential separation concerns — both as a route runner and beating press coverage — heading into the NFL, and his hands aren’t exactly as dominant as one would hope for a receiver who has the type of physical profile capable of dominating in contested-catch situations.
Ultimately, Wilson has an exceptional set of physical tools to contribute in a big way to an NFL offense. Expect him to hear his name called either at the end of Day 2 or early on Day 3 when the draft rolls around.
