Houston Texans’ Schedule 2024-2025: Dates, Times, TV Channels, Strength of Schedule, and More

The expectations have changed drastically for the Houston Texans. Their stunning AFC South title run along with their aggressive April 3 trade for All-Pro wide receiver Stefon Diggs have reignited the fanbase.

But fresh off last year’s playoff run, does the schedule get tougher for them? Let’s take a look at the Texans’ 2024 schedule for the 2024 NFL season, including their strength of schedule (SOS) rank, prime-time games, the biggest matchups that await, and more.

Houston Texans’ Schedule and Opponents

The complete 2024 NFL schedule was released on May 15 at 8 p.m. ET, and we have it in the table below (which is best viewed in landscape mode).

Texans’ Strength of Schedule

Following their stunning postseason run, the Texans will face a significantly tougher schedule in 2024.

Using PFN’s in-house metric, Houston will face the third-hardest schedule in the NFL this season. This is in large part due to the number of playoff teams from last year on deck.

Collectively, Houston will play seven games against franchises that made the postseason. And these aren’t solely Wild Card teams either. The Texans will match up against the AFC’s best from a season ago, Baltimore and Kansas City, as part of their slate, plus one of the NFC Conference Championship representatives, Detroit.

DraftKings Sportsbook has set Houston’s over/under at 9.5 wins for the upcoming season.

Even with the loaded schedule, the Texans have built the kind of roster that can withstand this new set of obstacles that await them.

Again, Diggs is the big addition after Houston stunned the NFL by trading for the four-time Pro Bowler. The veteran and former Bills wideout gives breakout 2023 quarterback C.J. Stroud a new target to throw to — and a chance to improve from his astonishing 4,108-yard debut.

But Diggs wasn’t the only star that Houston added the offseason, as they also acquired Joe Mixon in a trade with the Bengals. The veteran running back is another past Pro Bowl performer, but he also brings Super Bowl experience to Cincy and will help bolster the offense.

The Texans weren’t limited to adding past Pro Bowlers on the offensive end. The defense welcomes four-time Pro Bowl defensive end Danielle Hunter from the Minnesota Vikings.

Houston also signed defensive end Denico Autry, lineback Azeez Al-Shaair, cornerback Jeff Okudah, cornerback Myles Bryant, cornerback CJ Henderson among others.

In the 2024 NFL Draft, the Texans selected cornerback Kamari Lassiter, tackle Blake Fisher, safety Calen Bullock, and tight end Cade Stover among others.

With the roster additions, a 10-win season certainly seems possible and the Texans will have a chance to potentially repeat as division champions, which hasn’t happened since 2018 and 2019.

Prime-Time Games

• Week 2: Bears at Texans (SNF)
• Week 9: Bears at Jets (TNF)
• Week 10: Lions at Texans (SNF)
• Week 11: Texans at Cowboys (MNF)

After having zero prime-time games scheduled last season, the Texans will play four prime-time games in 2024. They’ll also face the Ravens on Christmas Day on Netflix.

Given last season’s success and the moves Houston made this offseason, all eyes will be on the Texans this season.

When Is Houston’s Bye Week?

The Texans’ bye is in Week 14. They’ll have two weeks to prepare for their Week 15 matchup against the Miami Dolphins.

Biggest Matchups of the Year

Here’s how you know the atmosphere has changed around Houston: the Texans have some of the more highly anticipated contests of the 2024 season.

The team that eliminated them, the Ravens, will head to NRG Stadium in Week 17. Many will build up the Stroud versus Lamar Jackson dynamic, especially following Jackson’s 2023 MVP season. It’ll be the second time both will share the same field.

In Week 5, Diggs will get his chance at beating his old team, the Bills, as the AFC East champs are another home opponent. The division’s second-best team, the Dolphins, will occupy the visiting locker room inside the Texans’ home in Week 15.

The top interconference home showdown pits Houston against the NFC runner-up Lions in Week 10. Some analysts may believe that the Texans-Lions matchup could be a possible Super Bowl 59 preview.

Then on the road, the Texans will head to Arrowhead Stadium in what could be billed as a possible AFC Championship Game preview with the Chiefs in Week 16. It’ll also mark the first time Stroud will be on the same field with three-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes.

We’ll also add the Lone Star State battle in Week 11 as a game of significant intrigue. The Cowboys welcome back the Texans for the first time since Dec. 11, 2022. Only this time, both teams will enter AT&T Stadium as reigning champions of their respective divisions — which has never happened before in their series.
