Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice turned himself in to the Glenn Heights Police Department on Thursday. Police issued an arrest warrant for Rice on Wednesday for his involvement in a hit-and-run crash on March 30.
Rice is facing eight charges for his role in the multi-vehicle accident on North Central Expressway in Dallas, Texas. The charges include six counts of collision involving bodily injury, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury, and one count of aggravated assault.
After Rice turned himself in on Thursday, he was taken to DeSoto jail. The Dallas police have stated they are in communication with Rice’s legal team regarding the accident and his involvement.
Police also issued an arrest warrant for 21-year-old Teddy Knox on Wednesday, although there is no report of whether Knox has turned himself in as well. Knox played cornerback for SMU, but the school announced that he has been suspended from the team on Thursday due to his involvement in the accident.
Rice and Knox are believed to be the two drivers who operated the two vehicles that caused the multi-car accident. Rice is believed to have operated the Lamborghini Urus while Knox was operating the Chevrolet Corvette.
Rice actually rented the luxury vehicle from The Classic Lifestyle, a car rental company in North Dallas. According to the company’s owner, Rice was the only person permitted to drive the Urus.
Photos and videos that have been provided show both men walking away from the accident without offering help to anyone on the scene. While Rice and Knox were not initially charged with failure to stop and render aid, it could be added to their charges in the future.
The NFL and the Chiefs have yet to discipline Rice, yet the 23-year-old wide receiver could likely face punishment at some point. Chiefs president Mark Donovan stated that the team is going to gather all of the facts regarding the accident and react accordingly.
