We’re getting closer to the next marquee league event, the NFL‘s annual selection event, which is just over two weeks away. That’s right — the window of waiting for the 2024 NFL Draft is rapidly closing.
Draft ideas change throughout the offseason due to free agency or late trades. Regarding the latter, will recent moves for Haason Reddick and Stefon Diggs impact the latest PFN 2024 NFL Mock Draft? Are there any other shakers here? This time, we’re going three rounds.
3-Round 2024 NFL Mock Draft
1) Chicago Bears (From CAR): Caleb Williams, QB, USC
It’s becoming more crystalized that Caleb Williams is heading to the Windy City. The Justin Fields trade paved the way for the Bears to select their new QB1 at the top of the draft.
Even new Bears wide receiver Keenan Allen appeared at Williams’ Pro Day on the USC campus. We sense that Williams will be gone by the first two picks — and it won’t be at No. 2, as that’s reserved for another high-profile quarterback.
2) Washington Commanders: Jayden Daniels, QB, LSU
Jayden Daniels is the legitimate threat to change the pecking order at the top of the draft.
The 2023 Heisman Trophy winner brings his explosive elements to the field. He’s a turbocharged athlete who plays the game at a fast tempo, which is likely welcoming for a Commanders fan base seeking more excitement after enduring years of bland offensive play.
3) New England Patriots: Drake Maye, QB, North Carolina
Drake Maye is likely not to fall out of the top five, and I doubt he will fall out of the top three, either. Having Alex Van Pelt as his offensive coordinator becomes an early gift for the North Carolina star in this three-round mock draft.
Van Pelt will find a way to refine his game, especially given his resume of working with multiple types of QBs, from dual-threats to pocket guys during his time with the Cleveland Browns.
4) Minnesota Vikings (From ARI): J.J. McCarthy, QB, Michigan
Trade: The Vikings receive the fourth overall pick; the Cardinals receive the 11th overall pick and Minnesota’s 2025 first-rounder.
I’m joining my other PFN colleagues in believing Minnesota will make an aggressive move to swoop up J.J. McCarthy. However, in this 2024 NFL Mock Draft, the Vikings add their 2025 first-rounder rather than their second first-round pick in 2024 — a popular trade package — to sweeten the deal with Arizona.
I’ve often heard the term “polarizing” when others describe McCarthy and his game. But, let’s be honest — he’s a proven winner with a significant number of big victories in his career, including the 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship.
Additionally, he’ll be in an offense that can mirror the Michigan unit he leaves behind: multiple tight ends, shifts, and motions with the receivers to create 1-on-1s and bootlegs to set up play action. Kevin O’Connell has a system tailored for the Wolverines star.
5) Los Angeles Chargers: Marvin Harrison Jr., WR, Ohio State
Even though the Jim Harbaugh era has the makings of a smashmouth approach, he still must find a way to keep Justin Herbert happy. Here’s how: By drafting the best non-QB in this draft class, the ultra-productive Marvin Harrison Jr., as a replacement for longtime receiving leader Allen.
Fun fact: Harbaugh and his Wolverines staff tried recruiting Harrison to Michigan in 2019 for their 2021 class before the standout pass catcher signed with rival Ohio State. Harbaugh makes up for it here.
6) New York Giants: Malik Nabers, WR, LSU
Malik Nabers is a huge gift for a New York Giants offense, falling to the sixth overall pick of this 2024 NFL Mock Draft.
While the Giants still have quarterback questions and the running back room to address (more on that later), they need a playmaking pass catcher to strike fear in opposing defenses. Head coach Brian Daboll takes the first step to reignite his floundering offense by turning to the explosive LSU star.
7) Tennessee Titans: Joe Alt, OT, Norte Dame
A wide receiver could still be enticing here for Tennessee. However, Joe Alt being available with the seventh overall selection is a gift the Titans can’t turn down in this 2024 NFL Mock Draft.
Alt has the powerful fundamentals and trench dominance to ensure Will Levis has protection for years to come. After allowing 64 sacks in 2023, Tennessee’s offensive line needs are more substantial than their WR one right now.
8) Atlanta Falcons: Dallas Turner, EDGE, Alabama
It feels like the Atlanta Falcons will select a Crimson Tide defensive standout with the eighth overall pick.
MORE: Top EDGEs in the 2024 NFL Draft
Alabama has strong options for two of Atlanta’s most significant needs: EDGE and cornerback. Raheem Morris hasn’t gotten a chance to address the Falcons’ porous pass-rush win rate from last season. The Falcons head coach goes with his potential Von Miller-type for his defense in the disruptive Dallas Turner.
9) Chicago Bears: Rome Odunze, WR, Washington
The Bears will likely receive plenty of phone calls to trade this selection. However, they can add a future go-to guy for new quarterback Williams in this 2024 NFL Mock Draft.
The USC star is already familiar with Rome Odunze, having watched him become a 92-catch, 1,640-yard wideout for Pac-12 rival Washington last year.
Odunze’s separation and body control on catches can lessen the pressure for DJ Moore to carry the Chicago wide receivers. Williams gets three different WR1 options to throw to start his career with Moore, Allen, and Odunze.
10) New York Jets: Taliese Fuaga, OT, Oregon State
Adding extra skill position weaponry for Aaron Rodgers is enticing, but ensuring his protection depth at tackle sounds more like the immediate need here at No. 10.
I watched Taliese Fuaga destroy defensive linemen and linebackers during the final season of Pac-12 After Dark. The more I observed his stout power and aggressive hands in unison, the more I believe he’s a top-10 talent. He comes in as the potential tackle of the future for a team needing depth there.
11) Arizona Cardinals (From MIN): Jared Verse, EDGE, Florida State
Trade: The Vikings receive the fourth overall pick; the Cardinals receive the 11th overall pick and Minnesota’s 2025 first-rounder.
After dropping down this class and gaining future capital but missing out on Alabama’s Turner, Jonathan Gannon goes after the next best pass rusher available: Jared Verse.
The Seminoles star and Albany transfer is a fierce lightning bolt the moment the ball moves. This type of cat-quick element is perfect for Gannon. Verse could remind Gannon of a speedy defender he once coached — Reddick — while improving the Cards’ awful sack production.
12) Denver Broncos: Michael Penix Jr., QB, Washington
Surprise, surprise! Michael Penix Jr. skyrockets to 12th overall.
MORE: Top QBs in the 2024 NFL Draft
This selection is fueled by the report of coaches becoming higher on him than even some of the top guys in this QB class. Perhaps Sean Payton will be enamored with Penix’s work ethic, maturity, and impressive arm strength — leading to a future QB1 role.
13) Las Vegas Raiders: Terrion Arnold, CB, Alabama
My last 2024 NFL Mock Draft had the Raiders taking a cornerback. The position holds true, but this time, the top overall CB of this class, Terrion Arnold, lands in Sin City.
Arnold’s aggressive playing style, especially against the passing game, is perfect for the alpha-male approach that new head coach Antonio Pierce is building for Raider Nation.
14) New Orleans Saints: Olumuyiwa Fashanu, OT, Penn State
Derek Carr was sacked 31 out of the 35 sacks the Saints allowed. Olumuyiwa Fashanu didn’t surrender a sack to his side in 2023.
He could be a longtime fixture at tackle if he corrects his pad level, as he was caught getting too high during his Penn State career. Still, his feet and long arms are there to improve the pass blocking in the Big Easy.
15) Indianapolis Colts: Brock Bowers, TE, Georgia
According to multiple mock drafts, Brock Bowers has an incredible projected range, going anywhere from the top five to the final pick of the first round.
He lands in the middle here, but Indianapolis Colts fans have got to be enamored with the thought of Anthony Richardson feeding the electric tight end the ball — especially with his knack for turning short passes into chunks of yards.
16) Seattle Seahawks: Troy Fautanu, G, Washington
New offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb helps sway this move for the Seattle Seahawks. Troy Fautanu was a big reason why the Huskies were so surgical on offense last fall. After handling the dirty work of pummeling EDGE and interior defensive linemen with his hands in college, Fautanu can set an aggressive tone for the new era under Mike Macdonald.
17) Jacksonville Jaguars: Nate Wiggins, CB, Clemson
Jacksonville has thrived with Clemson Tiger standouts (see Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne Jr.), and general manager Trent Baalke has long preferred drafting athletic players with a strong upside.
MORE: Top CBs in the 2024 NFL Draft
The towering and freakishly fast Nate Wiggins ticks both those boxes as the selection in this 2024 NFL Mock Draft.
18) Cincinnati Bengals: JC Latham, OT, Alabama
Even after signing Trent Brown, tackle help is still a need for the Cincinnati Bengals. JC Latham gives the franchise a future fixture in the trenches while bolstering some needed protection for QB Joe Burrow. He didn’t allow a sack last season for the Crimson Tide.
19) Los Angeles Rams: Laiatu Latu, EDGE, UCLA
Thanks to Kobie Turner, the Rams have some inside insurance post-Aaron Donald. Now, they can focus on helping their other star rookie pass rusher, Byron Young. Laiatu Latu not only gives L.A. that boost, but he also reunites with a brief college teammate of his in Puka Nacua, as both started their collegiate football journey with Washington.
20) Pittsburgh Steelers: Jackson Powers-Johnson, OC, Oregon
Now that the Steelers have rearranged their QB room through the Fields trade and by luring in Russell Wilson, the focus is on keeping both upright. Who better than to bring in the tenacious and powerful Jackson Powers-Johnson? His blue-collar game is perfect for Steel City.
21) Miami Dolphins: Byron Murphy II, DT, Texas
Of all the free agent departures this offseason, Christian Wilkins was the most significant defensive loss for the Miami Dolphins. His brute strength and pass-rush consistency sparked the rest of the unit.
MORE: Top DTs in the 2024 NFL Draft
Bryon Murphy II brings the snap explosion and speed-to-power elements that can compensate for Wilkins’ loss.
22) Philadelphia Eagles: Graham Barton, OL, Duke
With Powers-Johnson off the board in this 2024 NFL Mock Draft, the Eagles go after the next best replacement for franchise legend Jason Kelce in Graham Barton. The Blue Devils standout brings strong footwork, excellent lateral movement, versatility, and a high football IQ to the line.
23) Minnesota Vikings (From HOU): Johnny Newton, DT, Illinois
Minnesota managed to keep its 23rd selection in this 2024 NFL Mock Draft and addresses a vital defensive need.
The Vikings struggled to defend the run in 2023. Johnny Newton combines upper body power with rare speed for a 304-pounder. More importantly, he’s got a firework first step that immediately stresses out blockers in run or pass situations.
24) Dallas Cowboys: Amarius Mims, OT, Georgia
Dallas nabs a potential blindside protector of the future in Amarius Mims. The dilemma for NFL teams regarding Mims is that he’s only had eight career starts.
MORE: Top OTs in the 2024 NFL Draft
However, his high energy and ability to obliterate line stunts earn him a first-round grade. He’s capable of being a massive, powerful replacement for longtime Pro Bowler Tyron Smith.
25) Green Bay Packers: Quinyon Mitchell, CB, Toledo
This is a gift pick for the Green Bay Packers in this 2024 NFL Mock Draft. Considering Jaire Alexander’s nebulous future, Green Bay gets a near similar cornerback who broke up a combined 38 passes in the last two years and one of the top Group of Five talents available in Quinyon Mitchell.
26) Kansas City Chiefs (From TB): Brian Thomas Jr., WR, LSU
Trade: The Kansas City Chiefs receive the 26th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft; the Tampa Bay Buccaneers receive the 32nd and 64th picks.
The reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs get aggressive and move up to nab Brian Thomas Jr. in this 2024 NFL Mock Draft.
While the 6’4″, 205-pound LSU star is more imposing than Kansas City’s recent diminutive but dynamic wideouts, he has the long speed and YAC ability to win over Chiefs Kingdom.
27) Arizona Cardinals (From HOU): Adonai Mitchell, WR, Texas
After addressing a defensive need earlier in this 2024 NFL Mock Draft, the Cardinals find Kyler Murray his much-needed receiving target.
MORE: Top WRs in the 2024 NFL Draft
While Adonai Mitchell has a rather rail-thin frame at 6’2” and 205 pounds, he brings an explosive release and 4.34-second 40-yard dash speed to give Murray a downfield threat.
28) Buffalo Bills: Xavier Worthy, WR, Texas
Diggs’ departure powers this pick. Josh Allen got used to a smaller but explosive wide receiver who could blow the top off of defenses when he had the four-time Pro Bowler on his side. The 40-yard dash record breaker Xavier Worthy looks to rekindle that magic by going 28th overall.
29) Detroit Lions: Kool-Aid McKinstry, CB, Alabama
Kool-Aid McKinstry becomes a significant coup for the NFC runner-ups. Detroit was torched against the pass throughout last season, especially during the playoffs. He’ll need to improve against more quick-footed wideouts, but he’s an accelerator in coverage and brings strong zone communication skills.
30) Baltimore Ravens: Xavier Legette, WR, South Carolina
Zay Flowers gave 2023 MVP Lamar Jackson a surgical field stretcher. The 6’1″ Xavier Legette provides the AFC runners-up with more size from his chiseled 221-pound frame. But he’s not just a big-bodied wide receiver, as Legette gives Baltimore a wideout who runs a 4.39-second time in the 40-yard dash.
31) San Francisco 49ers: Cooper DeJean, CB, Iowa
While a potential Brandon Aiyuk trade could alter this 2024 NFL Mock Draft pick, the San Francisco 49ers strike big by swooping up the versatile Cooper DeJean.
His arrival allows a sigh of relief for a defense waiting to see if Talanoa Hufanga will fully recover his form following his ACL tear. DeJean can fill at safety or slot defender and give San Francisco another potential Hawkeye superstar.
32) Tampa Bay Buccaneers (From KC): Chop Robinson, EDGE, Penn State
Trade: The Kansas City Chiefs receive the 26th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft; the Tampa Bay Buccaneers receive the 32nd and 64th picks.
Cornerback is a significant need since Carlton Davis III is gone, but finding pass-rush help is another must for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While he had mixed college results, Chop Robinson and his twitchy 4.48-second speed can help offset another offseason loss following Shaq Barrett’s departure.
