Protecting franchise quarterback Patrick Mahomes and keeping him upright is of the utmost importance to the Kansas City Chiefs. One area of improvement could be at offensive tackle, and a mock draft has the Chiefs upgrading at the position in Round 1.

Chiefs Could Select Oklahoma OT Tyler Guyton
Pro Football Network’s Tony Catalina has the Chiefs selecting Oklahoma tackle Tyler Guyton in his latest mock draft, while former Kansas City left tackle Donovan Smith remains a free agent.
“Although the Kansas City Chiefs added Marquise Brown this offseason, the situation surrounding Rashee Rice and a lack of depth at the receiver position could see the franchise strike for a pass catcher at the end of the first round,” Catalina wrote.
“However, they also have to upgrade their offensive line, and the selection of Tyler Guyton in this 2024 NFL Mock Draft gives them a talented playmaker who still has room to grow and develop.”

Tyler Boyd Potentially Fits With Chiefs
Free agent wide receiver Tyler Boyd remains on the market. Boyd has had a productive career with 513 receptions for 6,000 yards and 31 touchdowns in eight seasons. The 6-foot-2, 203-pound wide receiver had 67 catches, 667 yard, and two touchdowns last season.
Last Word On Sports‘ Anthony Palacios thinks that the Chiefs — who signed Hollywood Brown and are dealing with the investigation into Rashee Rice’s involvement in a Dallas car crash — could add Boyd at a reasonable price.
“It’s been a rollercoaster season for the Chiefs are winning their second Super Bowl in a row,” Palacios wrote. “The team had to make some room to trade and release some of their stars. However, the wideout position is probably the most important, especially for Patrick Mahomes. There wasn’t any reliability in their wide receiving corps so this may be why they released (Marques) Valdes-Scantling.
“The ongoing Rashee Rice investigation clearly shows that they need a starting receiver. Boyd could fill that hole quickly.”

WR Rashee Rice Could Face Charges and Possible Suspension
As for the Rice situation, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio spelled out what potential consequences could be for the young wide receiver. Rice’s attorney, Royce West, expects the Dallas Police Department to file charges soon.
“Given that West has said Rice admitted to driving the car, Rice’s first problem flows from Texas laws against street racing,” Florio wrote. “Because the six-car crash triggered by the obvious race between the Lamborghini that Rice was driving and the Corvette registered to him resulted in injury to one or more people, Rice faces a potential third-degree felony charge, which carries a possible sentence of two to 10 years in prison.
“Leaving the scene creates a separate issue for Rice, especially since the accident involved injury. It’s a one-to-five-year potential if the injuries are not regarded as ‘serious,’ and two-to-ten years if the injuries are deemed ‘serious.'”
Rice’s rented Lamborghini also had less than an ounce of marijuana inside, though a local prosecutor said that minor possession charges “won’t be prosecuted at all.”
“Beyond the specifics of any prosecution Rice faces, he’ll have to contend with discipline from the league under the Personal Conduct Policy,” Florio wrote. “A first-offense DUI currently results in a two-game suspension. Felony charges arising from street racing and/or leaving the scene of an accident involving injuries could result in a stiffer punishment.”
Rice had 79 receptions for 938 yards and seven touchdowns with the Chiefs in his rookie season, en route to a Super Bowl victory.
