Washington Commanders’ Opponents 2024: New Era in Washington Features Matchups With Elite Running Teams

    Published on

With the Dan Quinn Era underway in Washington, the Commanders have a schedule that will present a challenge in Year 1.

The NFL hasn’t announced the weekly schedule for every team in the 2024 season, but we know what teams every team will be playing this year at home and on the road.

The Washington Commanders will once again play in the competitive NFC East while also taking on the ultra-competitive AFC North. The Commanders finished last in the NFC East last season, which means it should have the easiest schedule in the division.

The NFC teams get an extra home game this year after having to play an extra road game this past season. Dan Quinn is the new coach for Washington, and it won’t be easy for a team in the middle of a rebuild.

Dan Quinn Gets To See His Former Team Twice

Before becoming the Commanders’ head coach this offseason, Quinn was the defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys. He had been in that position since 2021, and the Cowboys have built one of the best defenses in the NFL.

The Commanders head into this season looking to change things and get back to their winning ways. The team has the No. 2 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, and they appear to be on their way to selecting a quarterback.

The first thing the team will want to do is start to improve within the NFC East, as they lost all six games within the division last year.

Run-Heavy Teams Will Challenge the Commanders’ Revamped Defense

As soon as Quinn became the head coach in Washington, the team was going to do what was necessary to fix the defensive side of the football. During free agency, the Commanders signed Clelin Farrell, Bobby Wagner, Jeremy Chinn, and Dorance Armstrong, among others.

The defense will be challenged often this year when it comes to teams that can run the ball well.

The Commanders play against the Baltimore Ravens, who led the league in rushing last year. In their division, they play the Philadelphia Eagles, the eighth-best rushing team last year. The Eagles added Saquon Barkley, and they figure to have one of the absolute elite rushing offenses in the NFL.

Quinn has proven that he can turn a defense around, but it will be challenged early as well.
