The 2024 NFL Draft is less than a month away, and after a flurry of free agency moves, it’s shaping up to be a pivotal one for the Miami Dolphins.
With that in mind, I replaced Chris Grier in the war room, and thanks to the Pro Football Network Mock Draft Simulator multi-user experience, put together a full 7-Round 2024 NFL Mock Draft for the franchise while competing against other real-life general managers — namely my good friends in the PFN virtual office.

Dolphins 7-Round 2024 NFL Mock Draft
Round 1, Pick 21: Troy Fautanu, OT, Washington
As contract negotiations continue with Tua Tagovailoa, protecting the Dolphins’ most valuable current asset has been a prime consideration this offseason. While free agency saw interior acquisitions such as former Tennessee Titan Aaron Brewer at center, you could argue that every single position other than right tackle is under review and prime for an upgrade in 2024.
With Washington Huskies offensive tackle Troy Fautanu still on the board in this 2024 NFL Mock Draft, the Dolphins turn down several trade attempts to land a versatile and powerful weapon for their offense.
A long-term replacement option for the aging Terron Armstead, Fautanu can play inside at guard as a rookie, before making the move back out to the bookend down the line.
Round 2, Pick 55: Ennis Rakestraw Jr., CB, Missouri
Football isn’t played on paper, but if it was, the Dolphins still wouldn’t have advanced any closer to a Super Bowl last season. Their pass defense registered in the bottom half of the NFL across several metrics, allowing the fifth-highest completion percentage and the sixth-highest touchdown percentage to opposition quarterbacks. That’s, not great, Bob.
Add in some high-profile DB departures, and there’s a clear need to address multiple positions in the secondary. The first opportunity to do so in this 2024 NFL Mock Draft came in the second round, where Ennis Rakestraw Jr. was still on the board. With his quick feet, high football IQ, and competitive fire, the Missouri Tigers product has earned first-round consideration.
Round 4, Pick 135 (From SF): Javon Solomon, EDGE, Troy
Trade: The Dolphins receive picks 135 and 215 in the 2024 NFL Draft; the 49ers receive picks 158 and 198 and a 2025 fourth-round selection.
There’s an element of “win-now mode” about the Dolphins. That sense of urgency carried over to this 2024 NFL Mock Draft, where it was simply impossible to sit and watch a plethora of talented playmakers fly off the board in the third and early fourth rounds and sit idly by for the rest to vanish by the fifth. Trading with the San Francisco 49ers, Miami made moves to bolster their pass-rush roster.

Javon Solomon has been a highly productive part of a successful Troy Trojans team, logging 49.5 tackles for loss and 33 sacks, most coming over the past three seasons with 16 sacks in the 2023 college football campaign. While considered undersized, his first step, high-energy motor, and ability to impact the game in multiple areas make him a good fit with the Dolphins here.
Round 6, Pick 184: Jaylon Carlies, S, Missouri
Continuing the theme of upgrading the secondary, the Dolphins return to the SEC — and Missouri — to snag a playmaker who was starting to suffer a slide in this 2024 NFL Mock Draft. While several of his teammates have been highly lauded in this class, including Rakestraw, Jaylon Carlies is a ready-made NFL safety with an alluring profile for a needy team.
Jevon Holland can test free agency next spring, Jordan Poyer is essentially on a one-year stop-gap in Miami, and the depth behind those two is suboptimal.
Carlies is a 6’3″, 215-pound juggernaut against the run who also has decent length, football instincts, and the speed to patrol the secondary, resulting in multiple interceptions in each of his last three college seasons.
Round 6, Pick 215 (From SF): Tory Taylor, P, Iowa
As the old Chinese proverb goes, “Show me a mock draft, and I’ll show you a punter selection in the seventh round,” and so it came to pass in this Dolphins 7-Round 2024 NFL Mock Draft.
All jokes aside, Jake Bailey finished near the bottom for several key punting metrics last fall, including a 40.7 yards-per-punt average, and was middling in landing punts inside the 20 (16th of 33).
Middling is a word that has never been applied to Iowa Hawkeyes standout Tory Taylor, the poster boy for punting perfection in the modern era of college football. His ability to flip the field while pinning opposing offenses near their own goal line has fueled success for an offensively deficient Iowa program.
Taylor holds the NCAA record for career punt average while nailing 43.1% of his career attempts inside the 20. Weapon.
Round 7, Pick 239: Isaiah Williams, WR, Illinois
There are roughly 31 other teams in the NFL that would love to have the receiver duo that the Dolphins boast in Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill. The franchise also has Erik Ezukanma and speed demon Anthony Schwartz on the depth chart, but that shouldn’t stop Miami from attempting to add at least one pass catcher in the 2024 NFL Draft, especially with a later-round selection.

Isaiah Williams heads to the NFL off the back of his first 1,000-yard season of his college career. A versatile playmaker and former quarterback, the Illinois Fighting Illini product is an electric asset who parlays an explosive athletic profile into being a dangerous outlet for a quarterback. At 5’9″ and 182 pounds, Williams can be a slot weapon with special-teams ability.
