Larry David Adamant About Getting Rid of Goal Posts in Football in Pitch to The Rock for the UFL

The UFL will start its inaugural season this month. However, comedian Larry David wants them to make a rule change, one he even pitched to Dwayne Johnson.

While the NFL season has ended and the offseason is in full swing, there will be football on our TVs once again very shortly. The UFL, a merger between the XFL and USFL, will start its inaugural season before the end of the month. While the league will feature many rule changes, comedian Larry David wants them to remove goal posts.

Comedian Larry David Calls for UFL To Remove Goal Posts

The UFL is known for experimenting with new rules, especially in an attempt to improve the sport. However, Larry David wants them to make a drastic change in removing goal posts outright, something he’s adamant about, even telling Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to change it since he is a partial owner.

“I heard about this UFL, and I thought, let me talk to somebody in the UFL,” David said on the Rich Eisen Show. “My agent got me on the phone with Dwayne Johnson … and he called me, and we had a conversation.”

“We had this conversation, I pitched him my no goal post idea,” said David. “I thought it was gonna happen; he was completely into it.” David’s argument against goal posts is simple: there’s no reason for them.

“Suppose there was a baseball game, and there were two parallel bars in deep center field that were twelve feet apart, and you can get a guy off the bench to hit a fungo, and if it goes through the bars, you get a run,” said David.

“I mean, what’s the point? It has nothing to do with the game.”

“I told him all that, and then I pitched my extra point,” said David. “I didn’t know that the extra point was already in the XFL, that there were no extra points from kicks.”

“If there’s one thing I could accomplish in my life — if I could get rid of these goal posts, I will die a happy man. That would give me more pleasure than anything,” said David. “I don’t have a better idea for any other sport.”

The UFL’s season starts March 30 and will feature a 10-week regular season between eight different teams, four in each conference (XFL and USFL). It’s unlikely, but if a rule change of this caliber is ever done, it’d be done in the UFL.
